Argh, why! Would would they bother unveiling that beastly mo'fo when they're downsizing all armed forces? Bah, I can see why, but I'll just project my disdain for UAVs.

I disapprove of the topic title as we've had our own classified gear for coming up to four years now.

No I won't say more on the subject.

And yes I do think that the Lucifer will attack the test site and steal it.

Well, it'll make one mother****er of a strike fighter; lower and faster than a human could. Beyond that, though...

The fact that it has a front-center triangular area which is red, just like the Cain/Lilith, makes me seriously wonder if not whoever came up with the name is a FreeSpace fan :D

Sure, it's all fun and games now, but when thousands upon thousands of those things try to obliterate all life they encounter...

Is this a bad time to mention that the newest British Army comm system is called "Skynet"? :shaking:

The front of that thing does scream Shivan; someone will have to tell them, they might even warm up to the link (*Imagines a "53rd Hammerheads" drone squadron*).

Having less of our pilots on the front is always good for the soul. Also good for the wallet of course... need less teabags...

I officially hate the RAF a little bit less now.

Skynets not manportable is it?

I've not come across it yet.

I wonder how on Earth the RAF's going to sustain another batch of craft when at the moment they can't fit in enough hours on their Tornadoes to keep the pilots within what NATO defines as 'safe' in terms of flying hours, because of the (unfortunately necessary, IMO) budget cuts.

I think its the name of a component of the network rather than an actual radio system. *checks wikipedia* yeah, its the name of the sattelites (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skynet_(satellites)).

what's the fuel and maintenance cost comparison between a UAV/UCAV and a typical strike fighter

I've no idea. Probably less for the UCAV. I feel for whatever gets cut in order for the UCAV purchase to go ahead.

if i had to chose i'd scrap a couple of GR.4 squadrons and retrain where possible the pilots for UCAV duty, they would probably get more 'flight' time than now

Mmm, but the Harrier and Tornado squadrons are some of the more relevant squadrons these days, both flying CAS over in Afghanistan. I wouldn't want to get rid of them, especially as I think the UK are already getting rid of a few squadrons.
