I would greatly appreciate a .blend file containing a single icosphere model with following specifications:
-subdivision 5
-radius can be anything as it will be re-scaled to correct proportions anyway
-mapped so that it basically can use a spherical 2:1 ratio texture split into eight parts: Four for northern hemisphere and four for southern hemisphere.
If it is not too much trouble, I would also appreciate an otherwise similar model but with the mapping divided into 32 squares (4x8 squares, 16 per each hemisphere).
Where it will be used:
-For Earth skybox rendering using 8 x 21600^2 textures instead of a single, massive texture. Blender can handle 21600x10800 textures, larger than that it's a bit touch and go even on Linux. Hence I might need an even more divided model, which would then use 32 x 10800^2 textures for the part of surface that is visible.
Basically, this will enable me (and any others interested) to fully utilize the Blue Marble imagery at full resolution (86400x48200) available from here (http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Features/BlueMarble/BlueMarble_monthlies.php) as massive torrent files.
Thank you for your time. :)

yes please god someone do this

Err, bit of a problem in that icospheres don't divide evenly into octants like uvspheres do...

Please, get it done! :D
