Title: Gay toys? (wtf?!)
Post by: S-99 on July 20, 2010, 08:03:00 am
One day me and my friends little brother were playing with his toys doing fun things like shooting them with the bb gun until i noticed something different about the wrestling figure that made me laugh pretty hard.

This is really a mind ****, the only things that wrestling figure's facial expression suggests is "fabulous" and "just had great sex".

Sorry for blurry photo, my phone cam isn't that great. Other than that, gay toys exist.

I'm sure this makes sense or something.

In the bizarro world.

Is it obvious one of my ex-girlfriends was a hairdresser when I say that the hair of the toy in question should have slightly thinner sides? :D

It's obvious that your many exgirlfriends is code for how gay you are.

He looks kind of like an action-figure version of George Bush JR... You just gotta pull the string and he'll do awesome one-liners. "I'll Hebeas your CORPSE, LIBERAL!". It's what's hot in Alabama!  ;7

Really me just pointing out how wierd it is to see a toy with a facial expression that just speaks volumes of just got laid (at the gay bar). Not really something to expect from WWE toy figures facial expressions

I never knew homosexuals had a 'look'...

I'm going to leave this open for now, I'm not happy about it, but it's no worse than discussing Christianity or any other hot topic, however, be aware that there is a current of homophobia in here that I'm not really happy with. I'm very much in two minds because this isn't a topic about homosexuality, it's a topic about something that 'looks' gay, and that's a rather...unusual assumption from the start.

Of course gays have a "look." That's part of the stereotype.

In fact there was an interesting study which suggests people can identify homosexuals better than chance just by watching them.

I don't remember if it was a field study or (more likely) a lab study that controlled for stuff like outfit or even just used still pictures.

So it may be correlated with body language or even (if you want to go biological with it) bone structure and stuff.

I doubt it's bone structure, though, body language could be an indicator. That said, betcha you'd get different results if you ran the same test in Saudi Arabia, yes, there are 'camp' homosexuals, but this whole idea that anything that looks that way must therefore be 'gay' in nature is not really helping anyone and is only adding to an already false stereotype.

I have no doubt it's partially or completely socialized.

Oh, I agree, the simple fact people actually managed to get away with the 'it means something different online' shenanigans proves that ;)

Not suggesting they do....but more on that in a second.
however, be aware that there is a current of homophobia in here that I'm not really happy with.
I wasn't aware of it, or maybe the fact that tipped you off was that i said "gay bar", or simply just the thread title, or somebody else who commented in here. If someone really had a problem, they probably would have voiced it before a mod came in and effectively said "i don't like where this topic could be going even though the direction it could go is not what the topic is about and hasn't gone in that direction yet". But, this is fine, you're in a job of government; you are voicing concern because this thread could realistically turn into something else the moment someone who gets offended at the smallest things or just simply the utterance of a word and then blow things out of proportion hasn't happened yet (in my opinion nothing has quite gotten out of hand in here).
I'm very much in two minds because this isn't a topic about homosexuality, it's a topic about something that 'looks' gay, and that's a rather...unusual assumption from the start.
Your right, it's not a topic about homosexuality, and i hope it doesn't morph into one. In which i probably could have chosen a better thread title.  This is a thread is mostly about interpreting the facial expression and other aspects of the toy. I didn't know what exactly to call it, so i ran with gay toys. Had the toy not been a mind ****, then i wouldn't have started this thread.

It was really just the facial expression combined with the fact that the wrestling figure looks more like that they are a male stripper instead (if the toy figure had a more stern serious facial expression, it wouldn't look like someone who just got laid). This leads to the formulation of multiple conclusions for what the toy figure looks like it just got done with and does in real life if it were a real person. Such as, wrestler that looks like they just got laid, chip 'n' dales stripper that looks like they just got laid, or waiter at a risque gay bar/restaurant that looks like they just got laid. Hence really my choosing of the title, next time i'll call it "wrestling figure got laid??!?!".

Don't worry, I'm not pointing fingers at anyone in particular, it's an easy trap to fall into, and I'm not oblivious to the ease with which it is possible to see something like that and think of the more 'camp' homosexuals that grace our popular culture.

Like all things, it's really just a question of being aware of the undertones of what is being said, there's nothing 'wrong' with what anyone is saying in here, as such but like all things, as you say, people have to be aware it's a stereotype they are discussing :)

The whole reason I chose not to lock this thread is because, whilst I may not be 100% comfortable with the content, there's no genuine homophobia going on in here as such, and as long as it remains that way, it's fine :)

I think it makes sense for gay people to be easily identifiable. I mean, maybe not so much in homophobic areas, obviously... but the majority f people are straight, so if you're gay you have to look extra hard, and you want to be spotted by whoever is looking for you.

But I don't like acting like a stereotypical lesbian, so I just pretend to be bisexual ad date guys.

Gay people as far as i'm concerned look just live everybody else. There is however a distinguishing feature with a lot of gay people such as different fashion.

Gay men have jeans that just fit differently. And weird pointy fronts of their hair. And lot sof striped button-down shirts. At least, all the men at the gay bar did.

Stereotypes can work in two directions though, look at 'Gay Pride' festivals, they are very much a case of 'if this is what you think I am....'

Yeah, I agree. Although here in Perth metrosexuality really caught on with my age group, and distinguishing gay male teens from straight male teens is a little harder when they're both walking around with straightened hair and slim fitting jeans. :P

Funnily enough, it's the straight, chauvinistic kinda blokes that I play football + rugby with that display a bit of a jealousy for gay dudes, since they seem to attract women effortlessly. :D

Uuugh about the rugby players. What's the point in getting jealous over someone who attracts more women but is not into any of them at all. Jealousy is stupid.
Title: Re: Gay toys? (wtf?!)
Post by: Dilmah G on July 23, 2010, 04:33:19 am
Yeah, exactly. It's not something that all of them display, but just something I notice among a few of them. Once the gay blokes leave the women are all for the taking though. :D But really, I don't have a problem with gay people at all, unless they're acting so camp it's as if they're taking the piss out of the rest of the homosexual community.

Reminds me of people trying to learn the ways of the gay person to get women which doesn't really work and sounds like it would land one in the friend zone very fast.

I know there are women that aren't born with gaydar, and there's also women who like gay men because they're so understanding, sensitive, and kind (along with the fact that they wont hit on a girl = guaranteed friend only guy).

Yeah, that was what I thought was it. Which makes it even more stupid that people I know are jealous of it.

Reminds me of this girl i saw on tv. She was about 27, and her complaint to guys was that she can never have a guy friend that doesn't try to take it to the next level.

I was like well this is easy to solve in 3 steps. Don't find similar guys for friends as the last ones were, change how she is around her guy friends (something tells me she may be doing something unknowingly to end up having a guy develop an interest in wanting to take it to the next level), or find some gay pals.

It was on that "later today" show on nbc at 11am which happened to be when i woke up, flipped on the tube, and because of 2 channels didn't feel like watching barney.

Squaddies have some interesting habits when they're drunk.

Like my old rugby club, for instance when drunk it's considered macho to kiss other guys with tongues.

Hand's up I admit I've done it after a pint for a dare with no ill feeling or curiousity sprouting but I know for a fact some guys I know would treat myself and my army mates (all equally tough physically and mentally) with complete disdain.

People are people.

So no other gay toy pics? Afraid to google eh?
