wat

I mean, wat?

Also, consider joining the #hard-light channel, where these quick, off-the cuff questions like this can be answered quickly.

Also, have you tried the "Lighting from suns" option?

I think he means glowmaps... and no, I don't believe they are. Then again, it's only FRED; I always use it with wireframe models and Media VPs turned off anyway.

I always use it with wireframe models
I wonder how you're able to? For me fred2_open becomes extremely slow and unresponsive whenever wireframe is used

Me too. Wireframes cause incredible lag and I'm on a very high-end rig.

That's because wireframe mode is also known as "Software rendering mode". If you're using it, it means that your shiny GPU goes unused.

Same thing in stores. The "light" products which miss all the tasty ingredients are even more expensive.

It's not just in FRED and it's not wireframe that causes the slowdown.  It's any wireframe that is IFF colored.  Seems replacing the base color with the IFF on the draws is what slows it down to a crawl.  Even a simple 3d wireframe used as a jumpnode will drop FPS through the floor ingame.

Huh? Glowmaps can be enabled! Just add -glow to the command line.

...but they aren't animated, are they?  I mean, if you have MV_Advanced and it works for you in FSO, it still won't animate in FRED.

Why would you want it to? Srsly? Choke up even MORE system resources?

It's not like _seeing_ the Animated glow maps is really going to affect layout or anything. Other than taking longer to load things in.

On occasions, I played with lightning, ambient light setup, etc.....
You are absolutely right, for normal mission design this is useless, but I sometimes had to balance out these details for ingame cutscenes, and I always had to load the mission over and over to control if everything was as I wanted it to be.

Terrible grammar .....
