Title: New Capital Ship - my first

(NB:  This is an earlier piccy, the current model is a wee bit better looking / textured, and BIGGER)

Named the SOCv Haphaestus (Special Operations Corvette).  Will be heavily armed (for its size), and roughly 1.5 / 2 times the size of a Deimos Corvette.

Still to add turrets (not sure first)

I would appreciate opinions on it.

That looks good. But Grey Wolf's got the name already dude  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) I would suggest the SOCv Hesione.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

If only I could make ships like that.  I wish I had Truespace, at least something other than a demo.  anything above version 2 doesn't allow saves.  texture mapping is a nightmare without a higher version.  at any rate, version 2 demo expired last week.  oh well.
aside from that, great work on the ship!

Not sure what to change the name yet... what does Hesione stand for?  

Is there a list of all the names used in both the games ships and of the most popular mods?  At the mo I'm considering a change to the SOCv Daedelus/Icarus (think one of these is taken) or the SOCv Poseidon.

I don't suppose anyone has a link to a good website for Norse / Greek mythology names?

It's in 3 zipped files.  It isn't the worlds best program, admittedly, but at least the price is right.

no reason, I just think the Deimos is cool, so I made it a Corvette... there was another ship class (in real-life, not FS2) that I thought would be good for it, but I've forgot it now.

Nippy little recon ships, I never named them properly (GTF Weasel?  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) ).  and i haven't got round to finishing them because, since I lost CorelDraw (reformatted HD), I haven't been able to do any shield anims, icons, tc to finish them.  they're about 5th down on my list of projects at the mo to be honest.  There's a better picture on my websits main page at http://uk.geocities.com/aldo_futbol ("http://uk.geocities.com/aldo_futbol")

I'll see how i get on with finishing the cob first, methinks - still ahven't done any LODs yet, and the textures are all renamed win Win 3.11 thanks to TS1 (sigh).

I like modeling more than texturing and POF editing. That's why I have a lot of untextured models  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

I've got 2 fighters, a bomber, a destroyer, a cruiser, 2 corvettes, a colony pod carrier and a colony pod  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

I've just finished texturing one fighter.

I'm the same way. Thats why I started getting into modeling for campaigns, that way I can get my models textured and POF'd by other people who know what the heck they're doing. Really it makes more sense to have specialists in modeling, texturing, and POF editing, since being halfway decent at each of things requires so much time figuring out what you're doing, I'd hate to have to learn modeling, texturing, POF editing, table hacking, AND FREDing in order to be able to see my first model fly.

I just nick the original texture maps and (when I had a decent graphics proggy) play around with colour washes and brush effects....  I had a really good texture map for 'kills' (little graphics) painted on the side of fighters, but TS1 killed it  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif)

Yay!! Got the turrets working for the first time today - now i can finally arm the damn thing     (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)  Incidentally, it's now a Destroyer / Heavy Assault Frigate, since I've lengthened it to roughly 1600m.  Let me add more guns without worrying as much about game balance     (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/hammer.gif)

Still got some problems though... see the main page
