Title: Trouble using the Fiction Viewer in 3.6.12
Post by: Mobius on August 10, 2010, 11:46:00 am
Earlier today, I tried to use the Fiction Viewer with FSO 3.6.12 and got problems in the process. I left the font file space blank, chose the music to play and also typed carefully the fic's filename. All fics are in mod/data/fiction. Perhaps what I posted below should prove useful at finding out what happened.

If it matters, the naming convention I'm using is the following: <campaign's name>_Fic-<number>.txt

Isn't your mod standalone? I think you need to import the interface art from the 3.6.12 MediaVPs.

Fiction viewer artwork has been included in the new mediavps. Make sure you are loading them.

This is not for INF, it's for another campaign that I'm running with 3.6.12 Media VPs. Further work on INF's fanfics will be resumed in a matter of days. Are you sure that the problem is related to the MVPs?

I'm definitely using the Media VPs, the mod.ini is correct and I see all the recently added effects in-game.

Aaaaaargh, ****.

Sorry, just checked. Something went wrong when compiling the new mediavps, and so the mask file (which is necessary for the FV to work) was named incorrectly.
My sincerest apologies, Mobius, fixed file is attached. Unpack this archive, and place the files in mediavps_3612\data\interface

Wait a sec...how did the BP2 fiction viewer work okay, then?

Because we have our own mask file in our svn.

Thanks for attaching the file and clarifying the issue, The E. :)

I'd like revive his thread if I could by asking this.

Is it yet possible to make the fictionviewer as part of the contemplates? Or is there some other method to create it? I'm sure there a lot of people who will want to know this one. And I'm especially looking to use it.

For contemplates integration, you have to ask Flaming_Sword. As for making it yourself, take a look at the files included in the package (http://blueplanet.fsmods.net/E/fictionviewer.7z), and use them as a template for making your own.

A while ago, Flaming Sword told me that he would add the FW to his contemplates. He should have done it by now, but it doesn't hurt to ask. :)
