Just wondering what everyone likes to use the most in their day to day tinkerings.

Mines 3D studio MAX + Brazil R/S

Favourite: Lightwave 6

The ones I'm stuck with: Blender and TrueSpace.

I've found that the model construction interface in Blender is better than most of the much more expensive progs I've seen. Trying to do anything ELSE with it can be a chore, but putting the model together is very very easy. Of course, I've never gotten the hang of that whole spline thing that most of the cooler programs use, I like using geometrical extrusions and just smoothing them by hand to get the right lines.

Rhino for modeling and max 3.1 for textures and tweaking.

No modelling software is as easy to get into, precise and easy to use as Rhino. That's counting 3dsmax and lightwave but it has no texturing tools at all (not entirely true but if you've tried using them you'll know what I mean).

Of course that's my 2 pence worth. (Ireland, remember?  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif) )

At the moment I use 3D Exploration to render images (more to the point, models which I then cut and paste onto a background in Photoshop).

I really want to get into Lightwave6 though (If I can just find a damn copy of it)...

I think I have an old version of LW lying around. I've heard volumes of good stuff about it. I should learn it.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Blender for modelling, TS1 for texturing and cr@ppy preview renders.  what can I say - I'm a poor student  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

NB:  Can you add light effeect (i.e. for engines / beams) in TS1.  Just would make my test screenies look better.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)

I'm quite sure you can, but for test screenies, I don't know if it's worth it  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) But I think Bobboau knows how to do it, he's around here somewhere.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

My favourite renderer? Every one I haven't used yet (means: everything except evil Truespace!  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif) Well, TS4.2 is at least useable...)
For modelling I usually use Rhino.

I have TrueSpace3 SE, came with an early Video Card.  The display is adequate, but the controls are absolutely dreadful.
