Title: Sound problems
Post by: Syder on August 18, 2010, 03:17:02 pm
After updating to a new build and media vps + installing updated version of AoA and WiH part 1 my sound keeps turning on and off, like if it's being muted, all the time whether it's a cannon shooting effects or ingame voice chatter or afterburners sound.  :doubt:

Two of my friends have got the same issue. None of us received any error messages or any other problems except for this one. Please advise.

We've definitely had this issue reported a few times, and it's totally unclear whether it's an FSOpen issue or something wrong with Blue Planet.

To help us track it down, could you post your hardware specs and a debug log?

Lastly, could you download a 3.6.13 nightly and try using it instead of 3.6.12 final? It may solve the issue.

OK, I'll try. Thanks!

If it still does not work and you feel adventurous, try fiddling with the settings in the Launcher. It has fixed some strange bugs from time to time.

Go to the data folder in your FS2 directory. Post the fs2_open.log file found there here.

You need to delete the bp-adv-core.vp. You also need to make sure that your AoA is up to date.

em... won't I need that vp for advanced visuals?

Also my AoA is up to date - I've replaced all needed folders with new ones.

Blue Planet has been reorganized so that bp-adv-core is not needed anymore.

I see.  But in that case you should remove this message:

"Optional downloads

    * Advanced Visuals: FreeSpaceMods

Advanced package is Blue Planet's close equivalent of mediavps' MV_Advanced. Use it only if your computer can handle MV_Advanced without performance issues and your video card supports 4096^2 textures."

from here http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=70745

BTW I tried playing FS2 campaign and meet with the same sound problems. That means it is not a BP issue but an FSO 3.6.12 or mvps 3.6.12

No, because the bp-adv-visuals pack that's behind that download is still needed. What is not needed anymore is the bp-adv-core, which is a different file, with different contents.

Hint: We on the team kinda do know what is needed and what is not.

Syder, please ALWAYS post a debug log when reporting a problem. And please define what exactly the problem is, especially in a thread like this where there were several problems being discussed.

I already posted my log and explained my problems with sound very thoroughly in the first post.

One more thing - just now I tried playing new FS port media vps and all the sound runs just fine. When I changed mod to mvps 3.6.12 my sound became messy again.

Have you tried setting the audio device to "generic software" in the Launcher?
