Whenever I have a close look on damaged ships with fire trails the game slows down a lot (e.g. when going after enemy fighters in dogfights). Having this issue on both my systems (laptop and high-end desktop). Is there a way to change or disable the trails or a way to adjust the options/cofiguration to improve performance on that matter? Other than that I have stable 60 FPS. Already tried removing the adv-visuals, which didn't change anything. Those performance issues are very annoying in dogfights.
MediaVPS 3.6.12 + latest SS2 inferno build. Settings maxed out, nothing experimental (like post processing), no AA or AF.

If there's a Particle Effects setting in the original FreeSpace options menu (F2) turn it down.
-
Given how the particle code was improved since .10, it shouldn't make you slow down at all - even I don't have slowdowns with particles, and that mean something !

I have a major slowdown since upgrade to newest SCP set. I try to reinstall widows, because i have no slighest idea what goes wrong. I can run modern game such as Singualarity,S.T.A.L.K.E.R,Star Craft 2 on highest and those game works pretty smooth, Freespace and campaigns like BP:WiH, WoD are unplayable with 10 fps during furrballs or direct sighting on some ship models i must cheat to move on and this is not aceptable for me. Original campaign goes on 30-60 fps
My specs again:
Athlon x2 4000 2.4 Ghz
Ati 4850
4gb ram
Win 7.

Well, it has nothing to do with the upgrade of SCP, it's just that WiH and WoD are the most demanding campaigns out there. Nothing to worry about.

Or maybe it was because OpenGL does not like overclocking of one's GPU. :p

Yes that was the problem. I just set card spec to default and now is smooth more or less but 7 heavens better then before.

Setting particle effects to lowest doesnt change a bit. Also, the slowdowns don't occur every time when there are fire trails on screen.
