Just playing through FS2 with the mediaVPs 3.6.12 and i came uo to the mission Fog of War, the first vasudan mission. in the mission briefing, the two icons that are supposed to repersent the Shivan Belial sentry guns are instead the SJ Sathanas icon. Clicking on them brings up the Belial model though. I'll get a screenshot up in a few minutes, once I figure out printscreen.

Those are Inferno ships. You probably have Inferno (or some other mod) enabled.
The mediavps briefing icons don't even use that line-drawn look.
Also, you should've just edited that into your post rather than posting again. And it'd help if you had done like this:

Yep. You probably have some vps in your main folder that do not belong there. Delete them, or move them to separate mod folders.
-
That solved it, I had INF_effects 1 and 2 and 1_HTL in my root folder. Thanks Aardwolf and the E

While we're on the subject, I believe that there are a few occasions where the wrong briefing icons are used... even in retail. I believe it was "Into the Maelstrom" where the Colossus is represented by a Hecate icon, when the Colossus has its own icon already in the set.
-
Just checked "Into the Maelstrom" both in Retail and in MediaVPs, and the Colossus is represented by the Colossus Icon.
The Unknown (Asteroid Field) and the Capella Node were formerly using the GTG Zephyrus, now using the Pharos as a placeholder (not that you will see it as a Pharos since the $label string changes that).
That aside however, if any body does happen to come across any inaccuracies on the briefing Icons or briefing text (wing names and the like), we do have an FSU Mantis (located in my sig) for reporting any findings.
-
Odd. I could have sworn that the briefing icon was wrong... though it has been a few years since I played last.
-
I recall that too. It may have been corrected in a Volition patch (v1.02) which fixed a lot of minor little bugs like that.
-
But I never played FS2 on anything prior to v1.2.
-
The Colossus is definitely represented by a Hecate icon in at least one mission. But I don't know which mission that is.

I just double-checked and can confirm that'd be "Into the Maelstrom" - the one where you escort the supply convoy.
Er, wait....
Just checked "Into the Maelstrom" both in Retail and in MediaVPs, and the Colossus is represented by the Colossus Icon.
Is there just something special about the build I'm running then? Because......

Yeah I'm pretty sure that was fixed in an official :v: patch at some point.

I'm not really sure if this has been done (since I don't PLAY FS anymore... long story) but if this hasn't been done yet, and since the feature has been available for some time, could we modify some of the briefing animations using the "flip" feature? In the above image, it might look better if the freighters were flipped horizontally so they point towards the node rather than away.

That would be cool.

It's called "$mirror: (0/1)" and has now been set to 1 for the transports.
And are we sure that there is in fact a Colossus icon?
$start_icon
$type: 6
$team: Friendly
$class: GTVA Colossus
$pos: -341.618774, 441.265167, 5225.889648
$label: Colossus
+id: 8
$hlight: 0
$mirror: 0
$multi_text
$end_multi_text
$end_icon
That is what is in mission file, but it is indeed clearly showing a Hecate in there. (this is from stage 2, same stage as the screen shot)
EDIT:
Okay, it is supposed to use "IconT-Super" but for whatever reason is using "IconT-cap"
Edit Edit:
"$type: 6" is supposed to be "$type: 31". Problem solved.

It occurred to me when I playing the game, that perhaps they didn't want to use the Colossus icon because it was too big for the space on the display. It seemed like the only reason that they'd DELIBERATELY set it to a Hecate. On a similar note, does anyone think that the "cruiser wing" icon for the NTF reinforcements in "Feint, Parry Riposte!" should in fact be a destroyer, since it IS the Repulse that you're trying to lure in to the trap?

Yeah, I was looking at that, and thinking there must be one of those which controlled which icon it used (according to species, of course), but I wasn't going to say anything because I wasn't positive it was $type: ... but now that I look at the parameters used there, it pretty much had to be that.
-
"Slaying Ravana" hos the same problem with the "$type: 6" and showing the Lucifer Icon instead of the Ravana Icon. This has also been fixed.

But there was no Ravana icon in retail, whereas I'm pretty sure there was a Colossus icon in retail.
-
There was and is. look in sparky_fs2.vp in interface, iconS-super.ani. What there is not is a Vasudan version of a Supercap Icon.
-
Or a Shivan AWACS.

Dude. That's a Sathanas. I said Ravana.

okay shut the hell up, everyone.
*There is no Ravana icon.
*There is in fact a Colossus icon.
