Title: Intersting "FS3 Intro" Vid found
Post by: terran_emperor on August 25, 2010, 01:05:02 pm
Don't know if this has been seen by the Forums already but here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8eJTTeXJsVU

I know it says FS 3

If it wasn't for the title, I would swear that it could be an intro for Blue Planet

If it wasn't for the title, I would swear that it could be an intro for Blue Planet

Except it's crap. It's cut together from several sources (the retail cutscenes and IceyJones' destruction of Vasuda vid, first and foremost), with a laughable voiceover. It also belongs to a very dead mod.

Who wants FS3 anyway? How boring. We know what's going to happen: final victory over the Shivans.

IMO what's much more fascinating is FS4. In other words, what happens to humanity (and zodanity) once the Shivans are absolutely, definitively, no longer a threat?

Why yes, I do have a campaign setting for this. Don't get your hopes up of ever seeing it though. :)

IMHO, BP is so good that canonical FS3 is not needed and would most likely be of lower quality than it.  :)
New engine wouldn't be likely to be so customizable and may require things like SSE2 or most recent graphics card.
FS2 SCP can be played without those, final release of BP will hopefully also be (right now, models are a bit unoptimized, but we're working on it).
Also, there are many other campaigns (if somebody doen't like BP), which anybody can choose as their own FS3.
So, FS3 for which we'd have to pay is completely unnessesary.

Yeah, and wtf is with the :v: and interplay logos at the beginning?

Seems in the comments the guy tried to justify it as "they made the tech that the game uses", but it's still misrepresentation to claim that they "present a game developed by" such-and-such.

This could end in court if  :v: and Interplay ever found out, so it may be good that this mod is dead.

I doubt that, Interplay would be all over HLP if they really actually cared about the fan usage of the FreeSpace IP.

They would, IF any one of us would be so bold as to stick the Interplay/Volition logo on our self-produced stuff. Corporations generally don't take kindly to people misusing their logos.

It isn't misusing the logo if it was their game to begin with. So in reality, if we didn't use it: wouldn't that be misusing it? Even if it is our own self produced stuff, surely they deserve some credit for the game that ours is based off of? Seeing as its their concept, models (in most cases) and whatnot.

If you put "Based on an original game by Volition/Interplay" you wouldn't have an issue most likely. If you use those logos as if the game you are demoing is actually made by them, you'd have a problem.

It isn't misusing the logo if it was their game to begin with.

It is. They didn't make the thing. The purely Volition and Interplay assests remaining in FSO with MediaVPs enabled continue to shrink, and at this point I'm not certain anyone can certify which parts of the code remain original. Claiming it's still a Volition/Interplay product isn't terribly wise as such.

Companies are extremely sensative about you using their logo on things they didn't make. Or, in fact, using their logo at all, since you are not them. It's somewhere between fraud and plagarism.

Human stupidity...

What pisses me off the most is how on Youtube, the vast majority of crap is simply mislabeled crap.

Fan **** masquerading as "official" or simply failing to mention it's a Fan or Mod or Au or whatever and just says, "This is X"

Sorry, but you are not "x" and the probability is that you are 99.9% not going to be "x".

Pathetic...

Their trademarks are registered, so using them without premission is a crime.
In general, logos and names are very serious buisness, especially if registered.
Also, there's absolutely no reason to give Volition/Interplay credit for what they didn't made.

What, you can't just say your opinion? You have to subtly imply that Dragon is atypical, or that there are a lot of people who dislike BP? Or that you dislike BP?

Also, nice typo

Look, guys, do we have to have this discussion? TrashMan came by and posted something, and I'd prefer we leave it that way rather than starting a 'heated discussion' involving TrashMan v. HLP.

I was about to protest that I'm terran_emperor, not TrashMan...But then I read the thread.

cue epic face palm. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nznt1yCsayQ&feature=fvst)

Whist I didn't expect only half expected the discussion that followed my posting of this video, I have to say I agree with just about everyone here on this subject...

But i also agree that this should not be one of those Everyone Vs Trashman threads. While the guy does like to argue (I think i remember a long one with him a while back) we have been known to agree on occasion. And find myself agreeing with him here - He's saying that people are titled to their own opinion on the BP Trilogy vs "a-canon-FS3" issue.

But realistically, I think that BP will be superior to any canon FS3...Unless something crazy happens -  like :v: deciding they like it enough to declare it canon and hire the BP team to make FS3. Fanon has been known to be made Canon on occasion...  :nervous: But enough of joking for now

But what I think is that there is potential for the video to be reworked into a Blue Planet Intro Movie.

This is going purely by the speech itself (not the crappy voice acting) and the music.

Except that that speech is not what BP is about... It doesn't fit the BP narrative at all...

Post by: terran_emperor on August 26, 2010, 07:48:09 am
Well the speech sounded suspisiously like somehing from AoA to me...

and i did say it could be reworked, into an AoA intro movie it doesn't fit all of the BP Trilogy...But I'm not going to agrue the point. I had an Idea and i posted it. if its not liked then fine.

The only connection this has to BP is that whoever made this used the same background track BP used as the Blue Planet theme.

AoA (and BP in general) should have it's own customized intro.

So I watched the video.

And man, the narrator sounds like a bigger bogan than some of the dudes I know! Although it did get a little better as the video went on.

...

That video is piss poor. It has next to nothing that is original material except for the voice over. The voice over is awful. The "tv noise" effects are bad. The music transition is even worse. It's visually uniteresting. Most of all, the whole thing is just not inspiring or intriguing... I could care a less about the story that this video precedes. The only thing more awful than it is the the "FS3 cutscene 1" that's a related video... and that is a close call...

The BP team has set a very high quality standard and this doesn't even come close. Not by even a FEW longshots...

Look I said i had an idea and I voiced it. If you dont like it fine - dont bite my head off.

I agree the video is Crap.

My personal opinion is that whoever made it played Blue Planet and used BP for inspiration.
