What do you think?

w00t! Very cool and realistic indeed!
And just imagine that since fsf will be released, all fs ships are goin' to look like that.

mmm...methinks this pulls bump mapping some good 20 times higher in the FS-source todo list.
-
Yikes. :) Nice reskin on the Hawking. ;)

What about it?

Looks very good! :eek2: :nod::yes:
I've always liked good bump-mapping, it makes things to look much better.

Haven't heard that name for a while! reminds me of your render as well ;)
But yeah - that picture rocks Psycho - truly outstanding stuff :)
-
I notice you fixed the nameplate
-
Coo
-
Holeee ****! I love the new paintjob on that thing...
-
Hey, did you build that off this? :)

makes things look more realistic. Adds...STUFF.
-
Stuff?
-
how do you do bump mapping?
-
Wow, that planet really looks photorealistic. I thought it was a NASA image or something at first. ;)
-
Bump mapping makes textures look relief, when needed by using shading techniques defined by a...bump map.

bump mapping is a cheap technique used by 3D programs to increase detail without increasing the polygon count. Unfortunately, this increases the render time by as much as 3 fold...depending on the object its applied to.
In laimens terms....take an image of say.....the Earth. No detail at all. It looks totally flat and un-realisitic. What bump mapping does is "raises" parts of the surface, like mountains, to make it look more realistic.
-
 Try to imagine a smooth globe: that's normal mapping. Now imagine a relief globe: that's bumpmapping.
-
Alot of positive feed back .........Well BumpMapping is basically a grey scale image that tells the program that White (rgb 255, 255, 255) is at the top and Black (rgb 0, 0, 0) is at the bottom and you design a map that reflects these properties and then add a depth to your desired descetion.....forgive my spelling:o ....hehehe well the render was done in TS4x and I just copied the map and greyscaled it then added lines the render took like about an hour to do when you know what you are doing...... hehe any way anyone who cant see the render its because the VW is down right now and most likly to Growing Pains with the flood of users...... Stay tuned to United Space Forum for further renders of other ships that Iam designing....and thanks for all the Positive comments I enjoy them and they keep me going;7

Actually, it could be... this one was. It's not particularly difficult to blend a photo with a render.

Pardon me. ;)
In retrospect, that blending job was really kinda poor, but hey... everything looks kinda poor right now as I look back on it... :)
