Title: Hurricane Earl hates Computers...
Post by: NeonShivan on September 03, 2010, 07:32:12 am
Well I have a little problem. We all know Hurricane Earl is coming towards MA, The Capes and so on. Well, I have a Tree in the back of my house just waiting for Earl to push it over meaning if it falls Part of my House where my Computer is, will be screwed. If that happens I have no choice but to Cancel Evolution and Evolution II due to the fact that my files became irreplacable  So.....this sucks :\ I hope My Insurance Company pulls through and gets me a NEW GAMING COMPUTER .-- and a NEW FREESPACE 2 --. and new games and crap sence well my Xbox will also be a victum lol

Why not just move the comp before the storm hits?

And back up your files just in case?

cause:
1. No where to put the computer where there IS internet connection
2. I have no idea how to backup a file (wow...) nor do I have a flashdrive or CD to put the files in....and move them...

I will try to find a way to actualy save the files like have a friend hold onto them or something, but good news is that the Hurricane is dieing down :) So odds of the Tree Falling is....lower?

Seriously? You can't move the Comp until the risk is over?

Also, what the hell is this doing in "Missions and Campaigns"? Punting over to GD...

More importantly, why are you sitting in a room that could be smashed by a tree any second? Both you and your computer need to move. :P

Maybe he's hoping that he'll get rich with life insurance money. On himself. Oh, wait.

You can live without internet for a week.

And why are you starting Evolution II?

Get a drop box or online storage account... buy an external HD.
Negligence will only leave you at fault when you won't take 5 mins to move the computer
and put it back later.

If the tower weighs like 300 pounds, that's one thing... then just pop the HD out of it.

how can you not know how to back up a file, it is like the simplest operation you can do with a computer. just get a ****ing $10 thumb drive, find all your files and copy them over to the thumb drive.

I wonder if he's just looking for an excuse to stop working on his mod.

Bonus points if six months from now he decides to start yet another one with the same scope.

Us?  We're not the ones secretly hoping that our computer gets destroyed so we can both a) have an out for a project we were long bored with and b) get a new one from the insurance company.

I hope a tree falls on my house so I can get a skylight put in cheap.

if i was in your situation i would get a club, and smash all my technology, then i would find a nice cave and live in there, eating small rodents to survive. i would sacrifice a goat to the wind and thunder gods in hopes that a tree doesn't fall on my cave. of course i have the skills to move a computer, backup my files, stick my games in a reinforced steel box, relocate my internet connection, cut down the ****ing tree, and the know how to not live in a land besieged by hurricanes.

If I weren't at work I'd have laughed my ass off just now.  I'll probably let it out on the way home.  A1 SUPAR.

Earl unlike Scrambles the Deathdealer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDqwlAU2QYs&feature=related) turned out to be a blow out.  So I doubt Nuke will get his wish; unless he wants to slip me some cash to manually assist the situation.

Dunno that I'd call it a blowout.  Tropical-storm-force winds are still more than enough to bring down trees.

Granted I'm at the 128 belt but all it did was rain a bit.  I just stepped outside and I couldn't even fly a kite in the breeze, or lack there of.

it didn't even rain as far in as raleigh. just about every other hurricane that has ever blown by NC has brought torrential downpours to charlotte (further inland)
