The SI Arachnas, a Shivan installation, is currently being upgraded!

Starting with a mesh created by the Polish modeller Moonred, FreeSpaceFreak has mapped the WIP version of the Arachnas. Turrets and subsystems still need to be added.

FSF wants feedback, so please comment this beauty. :)

Update

The installation is now complete and in-game, ready to take care of its enemies thanks to 24 turrets.

It looks awesome, from what few things I can see...
Is it still a caphip nightmare? And when are we going to see that in action?

It's a Shivan installation that will be used in both INF and ASW. Once completed, I don't see why it shouldn't be released to the public. :)

Not bad, but it looks like a giant, shivan squid. It don't have a 'ghost' of the old Arachnas. Sathanas-like textures would be better, and it needs more spikes.

How big is it compared to a Sath.  It almost looks like some of those main spikes could act as berthing dockpoints for cap-ships.  Saths for the big ones and Ravanas for the smaller ones?

Me, Woomeister and FSF apparently all agree on alterting the number of turrets a bit. My little request to FSF is increasing the number by 5+. :nod:

For some reason I prefer the original look more (can't really compare actual model details anyway), but I'm not complaining.

Depending on the camera angle that new model up there is akin to a massive gunship scaled up 1000000 times rather than something that just sits there as with the original...
