Hey, fellow BP-fans. :)
I was bored, so i made an Indus Unit-Badge. Yeah, that's about it. ^^
Maybe i'll make badges for some other units too, when i find the time.
-
Wow, I actually really like that.
In fact, I'd like it even more if it was sewed to the sleeve of my g-suit. ;)
-
Needs to have the Indus' registry number as well (FG 2101, in case you didn't know)
But yeah, this be awesome.
-
Nice badge, but your Hindi seems to be misspelled. It says "Sanidhu" whilst Hindi for Indus is 'Sindhu":
सिंधु
-
There, now with registry and (i hope) the right Hindi-Thingy.
[edit] No, wait. still wrong.
['nother edit]
Okay, i tried several hindi-fonts (the one in the picture is Arial Unicode for now..) and just copied the सिंधु - it doesn't look like here in the forum, but every font looks more or less like this. I don't know if that's correct or not.
[edit]
Ah, screw it. *draws shape in illustrator*
-
You are awesome. Do moar!
-
This is epic win.
2nd fleet FTW!
-
Mate, you should do us up the whole Federation Aircrew Uniform. :D

That would be a bit beyond my abilities. :/
Anyway.. everybodys favorite Cruiserkillers:

If anyone knows some more details about them (like a fleetname), i'll gladly add that to the picture. ^^
-
Badass. I believe they're part of the GTVA 15th Battlegroup.
-
Well i created an account only to say:
awsomeness²
-
So good ! Very well done
-
I sense an incorporation into BP3...
-
Would be great to see those badges (and hopefully more of them) in future BP releases!

+1
-
Really awesome. Perhaps we can have these badges next to the nameplate?
Also, I'd love to see the names of the ships that form Serkr Team in their badge.
-
These designs are a bit too elaborate for nameplate insignia. For those, I would like some cleaner designs, stuff that you can discern from a distance.
-
But they'd definately look gorgeous on command briefing "welcome to the unit" screens :)

I think the nameplates as they are now are pretty much perfect. Ship-Symbol, Name and registry number - all the ship needs in the field.
That and maybe the GTVA-Swirly or the Federation-Eagle, but that wouldn't look good from a distance, i think.. i mean, you need to be pretty close to see the insignia as it is.
... now, if i only could figure out how to convert these damn pof-files...
-
[nitpick] something about "team serker" sounds kindof.... odd. maybe it's just me, but something like "serker assault force" seems, stronger? [/nitpick]
-
They are referred to as "Serkr Team" in the narrative. "Corvette Division 151, 15th Battle Group" would be their "official" designation.
-
well alright then. "team serker" just kindof makes me think of sarcastic names like "team awsome" :P
-
This is awesome!
If there's going to be a whole set, I'm very tempted to get myself some prints on cloth of those.
-
Love the badges so far. Maybe you can find a latin phrase for "the best defense is a good offense". :) Might work even better!
-
I always liked "Nemo me impune lacessit". It's as badass as a motto can get.
-
Might work for a Jovian vessel or hunting group maybe.
-
Well, Serkr is basically Steele's personal sidearm.
-

...For some reason I couldn't help myself from imagining the 42nd bagpipes, a bomber squadron consisting completely of kilt-wearing, tree-tossing badass scotsmen...
:nervous:

Caber-tossing bombs LOL

Serkr is a nord word meaning coat. If anything, Serkr Team's motto should also be in nord instead of latin.

I only speak german and english, but if anyone has a nice nordic motto for them, just write it down here and i put it on the badge.

"Coat"? Like, the thing you put on when you go outside? Wow, that's... disappointing...

It's part of the derivation of the compound 'ber''serkr', meaning (maybe) 'bear coat'.
-
ohh, nice badges.

True. To properly become one of them, though, you had to go out, kill and skin an adult bear by yourself. The coat you make with its skin became a sign of strenght and courage.
So, it doesn't sound that disappointing when seen in context. You can say the Serkr Team wears the 'serkr' of UEF frigates.
-
Killing bears with beamweapons is a bit overkill, though.
-
Depends on the Bear.
Tell me, when was the last time you killed an Ursa without using several kilotons of explosive force?
-
Killing bears with beamweapons is a bit overkill, though.
No such thing.
-
Took a while (and a good chunk of my nerves..), but i got the fs2-models in Photoshop. Gonna make a couple of Squadron-Badges over the next days. ^^
In the meantime, have another Karuna:

Truly kickass. Fine work.

Considering there must be something left of the bear to make a coat, I think there is an overkill in this instance.

While it's artistically and technically well-done, for the first time I gotta say I'm not sure I'd wear that as a unit patch - it's so...cheerful!
-
I'm going to agree with Battuta there. It's very well done artistically, but it doesn't strike me as menacing enough for a unit patch. It doesn't make me feel that "My squadron's a bunch of tough mother****ers who eat, sleep, and fight together to the bloody end. And when the Feds close in for bayonets and grenades, we'll **** them right up back to Earth."
-
True. It looks good, but it really doesn't belong in War in Heaven
-
Indeed, something like this would be more fitting for a fighter squadron (it actually is from the USAF, so yeah)

KITTY HUG!
-

Yeah, but every single Logo with a tiger on it looks like this.. i wanted something different. Besides, who said that Unit Badges can't be cheerful?

It doesn't fit the GTVA - the GTVA logo would be like those ones, fearsome and very much militaristic. That looks cheerful enough to be a fed logo

Ah, but maybe that's the tactic - lure the enemy in with your cuddly kittenlogo, then smash them when they're lulled in by the nice tiger. Psychological warfare at its best!
-
Yeah, I can see it working. Put a Fenris with the badge and when UEF frigates jump in, send in a couple destroyers.
-
(http://dingofick.de/gen/bloodletters-badge.png)
It's a bit more bloodsucking than bloodletting and i couldn't come up with a good slogan.
-
Maybe a blood-dripping scalpel instead?
-
I think it's pretty cool. Scalpel works too.
-
Maybe a blood-dripping scalpel instead?
I think, the teeth are more menacing. Besides, the Bloodletters don't really strike me as a surgical option or anything.
-
I didn't mean *some* blood on a scalpel. I meant a scalpel covered in enough blood to make Quentin Tarantino jealous. Perhaps "dripping" was the wrong word and I should have used "cascading blood like a waterfall".
-

That wouldn't look good, trust me on this. Maybe on a knife... or a dagger. Actually, a dagger would work. Implies backstabbing and all that.
Still, i'll stay with the teeth for now.
-
I think chainsaws are effective at bloodletting. I can't remember what the bloodletters fly, so maybe that doesn't fit well. Leeches/lamprey maybe? Yeah. Lamprey with oversized chainsaw teeth.
Appreciate the 长江 :D
-
Maybe some 40K reference (maybe it's still on 200 years from now...). :)
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Bloodletter
For example, head of this daemon with fangs dripping with blood.
Or a Hellblade.
-
We could also totally miss the point and have a letter written in dark red ink.
-
Psychological warfare again? Make the UEF wonder what's going on and then BOOM!
-
That air base tiger looks like it has a eye infection.
-

The fleet's just a guess.
-
The fleet is correct, but it's called "1st Fleet" or "Home Fleet", not "1st Fleet Sol".
-
I like the badge, looks decently cool. :) However the font, while it suits the badge, doesn't hit the 'badass nerve' within me.

Sounds like 1st Fleet to me. :P
-
True. :D
-
Nobody noticed he misspelled "squadron"?
-
Nobody noticed he misspelled "squadron"?
It's part of an Ubuntu initiative to help people identify with their squadmates. There is no 'u' in 'sqadron'!
-
Besides, look at what the internet has done for general literacy in a really short amount of time; in this far out future it'll be a wonder if the human kind will still be able to write at all, let alone spell "squadron" correctly :P
Seriously though, good work. Personally, I'd have taken the ship pictures in the badges and traced them in illustrator as vector art, then discarded the original pics. Just to get more of an illustration feel to it - then possibly play around with it in Photoshop to get a fabric texture feel to it. Just a personal preference, though - badges are fine the way they are.

You should be able to guess which unit this belongs to. ;7

Good to know. Corrected.
Nobody noticed he misspelled "squadron"?
Seems like you're the first. Corrected. ^^
