(CNN) -- A federal court in Riverside, California, ruled Thursday that the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy -- which bars gay men and lesbians from serving openly -- is unconstitutional.
"Plaintiff has demonstrated it is entitled to the relief sought on behalf of its members, a judicial declaration that the don't ask, don't tell act violates the Fifth and First Amendments, and a permanent injunction barring its enforcement," concluded U.S. District Judge Virginia Phillips, a 1999 Clinton appointee.
I saw no topic of the sort, and felt prompted to make one.

Not...really.

I didn't realize it was under any sort of consideration at all so i didn't expect to hear anything about it at all, so yes, I was not expecting this.

Hmm, this is interesting.
*Cue cries of sky falling and possible implosion of universe by leading military speculators and several Officers.

Someone asked if it was unconstitutional, but nobody told anyone else that it was

Constitutional challenges to DADT have been ongoing since it entered law. They stopped reporting on them for awhile, but given the way the wind has been blowing on the subject it was reasonable to assume another one was in progress and would probably succeed.

well, normally with this sort of thing there is a week of build up around it.
