Title: Questions about using Open Source and mods
Post by: Byeohazard on September 15, 2010, 03:29:10 pm
Hello! Wow there is alot going on here! It is refreshing to see a game that I have enjoyed years ago as being so popular with a great community behind it! Please forgive me but I am a little overwelmed and have a few questions.
I downloaded the all in one installer and chose to have the entire package of mods etc downloaded.
I figured out that I needed to go into where I dloaded the files (my fs2 root directory) and run the launcher after browsing for the correct executable with the launcher from there.  I tried to launch from a shortcut from outside the fs2 directory but no dice   SO i believe I have that part figured out.  I am wondering however, how do I get the other mods working. I see directories for Blue Planet and others. Are they directories that are waiting for me to download the mods so that i have a exe. or am I missing something. I figured the all in one downloader would include the mods within those directories.
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks..and glad to be aboard!
Joe

Do you have retail FS2 installed?

Also, have you read this topic: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=61606.0 ?

Those mod folders contain everything you need to play. Select a 3.6.12 Inferno release build (ends in -INF, -r or -release) and then select the mod in the mod tab.

You will indeed need a copy of retail FS2, which are extremely easy to get online from GoodOldGames for $6, DRM-free.

The Launcher has a "mod" tab. Select it, click on the "browse" button, and select the mod you wish to activate.

In addition, please post a screenshot of your FS2 directory. Don't take this personally, but the words "I downloaded everything to the fs2 root directory..hopefuly that was correct." are usually a sign that the person installing stuff did something wrong.

Looks all right, if you meant that you extracted entire modfolder into FS2 directory (they're ussualy packed like that), then you're doing it right.
It could also be helpfull if you could show the bottom part, since most important files are there (I'm asking just in case, it seem that everything is all right).
