Title: Total Annihilation is on GoG!
Post by: Iss Mneur on September 16, 2010, 12:13:00 am
I just noticed that Total Annihilation is on GoG, it looks like it was added in the middle of August.

Purists are gonna hate me for this but I've come to like Total Annihilation on the Spring engine more.

Ya, same here, mostly for same reason that FSO is better than FS2.  The Spring engine was made to work on modern platforms.  That being said, the last time I tried TA was on Vista and it still worked pretty well, far better than FS2 did.

Yeah, Spring > SupCom: FA > TA > SupCom > SupCom2.

I played TA:K a lot in the past seven or so years. It's probably one of the games I played the most, and... looks like I should get the orignal TA as well. I remember the demo version of the first TA, and it was interesting. :)

didnt TA:K get absolutely slammed by the reviewers? I'm sure PCF did at the very least

Uhm... why? When I got it, the only review I read about the game was nice. It was written with quasi-retrogaming in mind, however, so that may explain it.

Kingdoms did get ripped apart for being nowhere near as good as TA, and I think it sold poorly by comparison as well. But it might be a Deus Ex/Deus Ex 2 thing where the second game is only really really bad in comparison with the first one, and decent on its own.

I dunno I played Deus Ex 2 without playing the first, I didn't think it was all that great.

Maybe that was a bad analogy.  :nervous:

How about Starcraft versus SC2?

Yes, it was. DeusEx 2 is the worst sequel ever made, if we take the difference in quality between the original and the sequel as the defining measure :)
Seriously though, it wasn't a good game even on it's own. Gameplay was pretty dumbed down in comparison to DX1, graphics and character animations were abysmal, story was mediocre at the beginning and degraded to stupid beyond all belief as you approached the ending.. horrible. Especially when you compare it to a masterpiece that DX1 was. I take DX2 as a prime example of what consoles can do to a franchise on a bad day..

Anyone got a good head on extracting units from a pack and making it into an individual .ufo? I'm trying to get the Archangel Dreadnought from Escalation so I don't have to use a mod where I won't use 99% of the new content just to mess with it.
