Title: READ: The top best campaigns mods?
Post by: Meatball on September 20, 2010, 07:00:37 pm
I don't want to ask for to much since all of you here are doing so much great work already with everything in general.
I'm a little greedy to Campaigns. On how well done they are, if they are voiced or not. I feel like a real ******** saying that because all of you deserve so much credit and shouldn't have anyone like me on your butt complaining. But I'm don't want you to think I am complaining. I simply want to know which one is best of the possibles. Kinda like The top 10. Listed starting with Best and it goes down.

Personal opinions, or general rating (if you rate your campaigns) don't matter. Just top 10.

* Top 10 'Voiced Act' Completed Campaigns Mods made with Graphics enchantments (Mediavps)

* Top 10 'No Voiced Act' Completed Campaigns Mods made with Graphics enchantments (Mediavps)

Some campaigns available don't have mediavps. And I found that really boring and it feels like I'm back in year 2000 when i was like 10 years old.
And they are pretty many of the campaigns mods. Some I see great images of, but can't really find them. Some form great TV Series like Battlestar Galactica but only found a demo -.-
Please post your top 10, according to my Points (*).

Uh, any campaign (with very very rare exceptions) can use the MediaVPs. If a given mod does not reference the MediaVPs simply edit the mod.ini file to use them.

Now at the moment I believe the campaigns everyone should play are

- and bear in mind YMMV and you should explore as many campaigns as you like -

Voice Acted:

Silent Threat: Reborn, Derelict, Blue Planet (though I am unsure Derelict is playable with the 3.6.12 MVPs right now).

Otherwise:

Transcend, Windmills, Vassago's Dirge, Wings of Dawn, The Procyon Insurgency.

You should also play Beyond the Red Line's demo and The Babylon Project.

These campaigns are again and again cited as the best of the best and I think you'll love them. There are, however, a great many other excellent campaigns out there, at least one of which I haven't played but keep hearing good things about (namely Uncharted Territory). Many also like Sync and Homesick.

Actually you can get past the parts that beam fading mess up by cheating and can continue on, and there's only two parts that beam fading mess up. I know because I just played it a week ago or so.

I think 'requires cheats to continue' qualifies as broken, thanks.

You didn't say 'broken', you said 'unsure if playable'. All I did was say that you actually can play it, but those little parts can be solved by (temporary) cheating (although I think the one where the Sobek disables the diemos can be done without cheating if you're good enough).

Right, so they're not playable. Understood!

There's a beam patch in the MVP 3612 discussion thread that purportedly fixes/reverts beam fade behavior. I'm not sure if this is cosmetic, or functional (damagewise) as well, and am not able to test derelict mainly because it's not currently installed.

I don't know about BtRL, but TBP isn't a campaign as such (though it does include the Earth-Minbari-War mini-campaign), but there are quite a few campaigns out for it.

If you really want a top 10, I suggest you gather all the campaign names given in this thread together and start a new thread with a vote to see which campaigns are the most liked.
Mine would be without any particular order among themselfs:
VA:
Blue Planet: AoA, Derelict, Dark Children, FreeSpace Port, Raider Wars, Silent Thread Reborn
non-VA:
BluePlanet: WiH, Earth-Brakiri-War, Fortune Hunters, Sol: A History, Uncharted Terretory, Warzones (despite an overabundance of "white-out" suns :P), Wings of Dawn

Ittalic entries are for The Babylon Project
Va for Fortune Hunters is currently being worked on and there was also an effort to get Uncharted Terretory VAed, but I don't know wether this one is still going.

Vassagos Dirge.... the missions are nice, but the setting and especially the music (some very slow classical music just doesn't fit into a fast paces dogfight) really ruin the mood for me, hence it didn't make it into my list.
Homesick was also a lot of fun, but I don't remember it well enough to decide wether it should be in the list.... I gotta replay that again.

Eh, sucks to be shame on you. The music in that mod was made to create a whole different atmosphere than standard FS. Plus a top notch FREDding and storytelling make that short campaign a pure concentration of win.

It certainly creates a different atmosphere.... one I don't like unfortunately. I agree, the FREDding is top notch, but the setting just isn't my case.

Spoiler:
I thought it was gimmicky until after I realized that you're at a psych session recalling the experiences. Then I thought it was pure genius.
