Title: Holy crap someone made a working computer in Minecraft
Post by: Shivan Hunter on September 30, 2010, 02:51:59 pm
Dunno if there was a minecraft thread other than the old April '10 one, so I'm making a new topic.

To quote from the YT video description:
Quote
This is the first part of a planned 16-bit computer that will run entirely in minecraft. That computer will be "Hack" compatible, which is to say that it'll run code meant for the Hack machine described in The Elements of Computer Systems (an awesome book that you should look up if you are at all interested in how computers work).

Linkzorzorz (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGkkyKZVzug).

Sounds awesome to me. It's like making a Turing Machine with Life32 (also awesome).

I kind of think this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kn2-d5a3r94) gets more nerd-cred, personally.

Is this that game that used to be a load of symbols? (Or was that some dwarf game? The e (dwarf) moves across a landscape made of upside down e's...) Edit: Dwarf Fortress. This must be different.

Looks interesting...I saw someone playing it the other day, they went for a ride down some mine carriage, then got lost so they died in the lava. (It took about a minute for the guy to die :doubt:)

The description gives some details.  Apparently he had old floor plans in some sort of model format, and he was able to convert them to Minecraft's block layout.  I don't think you could build that all brick-by-brick in a lifetime. :p
