Title: Weired issue, Age of aquarius fails to load, when war in heaven works fine.
Post by: CyberTribe on October 04, 2010, 09:51:52 am
I've got a very strange issue with Blue Planet Age of Aquarius. It fails to load for me with something about missing ships classes.
I've read the troubleshooting topic in this subforum and made sure i'm using inferno build.
Also, what's strange is that war in heaven works good.

Have i missed something?

"ship/texture/etc not found."

    * If you are playing a mod, like Derelict (or BP in that case :) ), make sure that you've selected the correct mod from the Launcher and the correct campaign from the in-game Campaign Room.

Checked that? :)

Yeah, i'm choosing blueplanet1 mod, and the corresponding campaign (age of aquarius), and of course using new profile. It breakes on loading first mission.

Then i choose blueplanet2 as a mod, and select WiH part 1 as a campaign (on another empty profile) and it plays just fine.

Read this (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=56279.msg1180359#msg1180359) and deliver your fs2_open.log.

Sure:
That's the log from one of the last tries. Can try again and post new log.

Are OS and machine specs important?

edit:
Just tried once again, made sure everything is consistent, contents of the log is nearly identical.

WTF. You're right, this is really weird. The problem seems to involve the retail ship models...can you load up the plain vanilla FS2 campaign without trouble?

While you're at it, could you turn up your color depth from 16 to 32 bit?

The debug build crashes, the log is here:
http://paste.pocoo.org/show/270931/
But the release build succesfully loads the default campaign on empty profile with no mods (even no mediavps).

Code: [Select]
Found root pack '/home/fedor/local/games/fs2o/a_SecFront.vp' with a checksum of 0xcee95ed9Dunno what that is, but it certainly doesn't belong in \fs2o\ . Move it to \fs2o\secfront\ or something.

Code: [Select]
Found root pack '/home/fedor/local/games/fs2o/RR_v10.vp' with a checksum of 0x307d6b19I think this is Renegade Ressurgence. A mod -> doesn't belong directly under \fs2o\ . Move it to \fs2o\rr\ or something.

Also, with that GPU, you may want to ditch MV_Advanced.vp. It is sort of a high-end machine thing.

And 32-bit colours instead of 16-bit colours would rock.

In the readme's of those it was smth like "place those files into the root folder"

i'll move those and make another try)

edit:

that made no diffrence

If they don't contain tables or other conflicting material, you can IN THEORY place them into the root folder and cause no harm. But as a rule of thumb: only retail files in the root folder, mods into subfolders and one mod per subfolder.

I am so puzzled. I don't see why any of those names should be invalid. Can you make sure your root FS2 files are not corrupt somehow?

well, since i can play retail freespace2 campaign just fine.

Can this be an issue with mediavps?
I'll checksum them so we can compare md5's

md5's of mediavps: http://paste.pocoo.org/show/270955/

though, i guess, there are checksums in the fs2_open.log

Code: [Select]
Searching root '/home/fedor/local/games/fs2o/' ... 5588 files
Please go through the fs2o/data directory, and delete everything except /cache/ and /players/

Code: [Select]
Searching root '/home/fedor/local/games/fs2o/' ... 5588 files
Please go through the fs2o/data directory, and delete everything except /cache/ and /players/

That breaks the game at all,

Code: [Select]
ERROR: " Web cursor bitmap not found.
This is most likely due to one of three reasons:
1) You're running FreeSpace Open from somewhere other than your FreeSpace 2 folder;
2) You've somehow corrupted your FreeSpace 2 installation, e.g. by modifying or removing the retail VP files;
3) You haven't installed FreeSpace 2 at all.  (Note that installing FreeSpace Open does NOT remove the need for a FreeSpace 2 installation.) Number 1 can be fixed by simply moving the FreeSpace Open executable file to the FreeSpace 2 folder.  Numbers 2 and 3 can be fixed by installing or reinstalling FreeSpace 2." at graphics/2d.cpp:608

So it must be not all fs2o/data.
As for runtime generated files - under linux they are placed in ~/.fs2_open. directory - tried clearing them already.

If i delete (actually just moved away)

The game doesn't start at all with output posted higher.

I'd still like to see a log file, please. Because your first log showed all the vp files in place, I thought there might be something in fs2o/data/ that would screw up your install.

Got my hands on blueplanet 1 once again.
After editing the campaign file, so campaign starts from mission 1, not mission 0 i've managed to play the campaign without any problems.

As one can see - it fails on adding list of ships into the database, though i'm not sure on which one it fails.

To reproduce this issue (i guess) one will need a fresh recent install of freespace and blueplanet from the openinstaller.

P.S. i must say that campaign itself is awesome! It's just that figuring out how to play it took for me longer then playing it :D

Are you sure the game is actually crashing?
Whenever I got a message about errors while adding ships to the database, it was just a warning and I could still play by just hitting the OK button.

While I had this kind of warnings often enough it never happened in either of the BP releases though....

Of course i'm sure.
Process terminates with such output into the console (see earlier in the thread)

Could you test it with fresh install using the openinstaller?

Problem is, the issue is almost certainly on your end, not with the BP data.

We should be sure just in case.

Well, all i do is use the installer, so i'm not sure.

Also, BP1 is the only thing that fails, and it fails on only the 0th missions - others work just fine.

I could probably rewrite the mission text so it will add ships to database one by one (one ship in each add-tech-ship command) and see on which exactly i fails.
But still wanna be sure, that others haven't such issues with fresh installs.

I'll go try to localize the problem even more.
