I tried looking quite a bit through the forums, but couldn't find anything.
Is it possible to build and run FRED2 Open on Linux? I have 3.6.13 of the fs2open code, but couldn't find a way to build the FRED files. I noticed when setting up a Windows install of fs2open that a version of FRED2Open was included with the dist, but I would prefer to avoid using Windows (or Wine) if possible.
I'm new to any form of FS2 modding, so any tips would be a tremendous help.

As far as I know FRED is Windows-only for the time being. There is a cross-platform wxFRED under development.
But you could always use TextEdit...
-
Right now, the only way to use FRED on Linux is via Wine.

Thanks for the responses! Now that I know for sure I can stop worrying about it for the time being. ;o)

Anyone know how/where/if possible to check out the code for wxFRED? I looked around a bit but couldn't find anything. Thanks.

It's in the FSO svn. Check the code/wxFRED directory there. However, it's not even close to being functional at the moment.

It's not even close to being complete. But it is functional, for extremely trivial functions. :p

Are you referring to some particular program, or just straight-out "wires' n pliers" text editing? Hahaha...it sounds interesting...I will have to learn more about the format.

Just Notepad, or Notepad++, WordPad, ConTEXT... Whatever your favorite text editor is, doesn't matter.
