Title: WW2 veteran talks about the power of music

I'm having trouble finding words to describe this, other than brilliant and astounding.  It's funny how sometimes, music is more powerful than bullets and bombs.

I'm having difficulty wrapping my head around how what presumably is a Jug pilot was doing boots on the ground in Normandy.  I suppose he was acting as a FAC?

9th Air Force, the CAS guys, set up on something like D+5 and was never terribly far from the front.

Yeah looks like D-Day plus 10 they started moving P-47s onto a beach-head landing strip.  I didn't realize they deployed them forward that soon.
