Hello everyone,

I'm sorry if this is not the way to show my problem, but as the threadstarted had a similar situation, I thought I use the same one.

I've got 43 errors:

I bought the game from GOG.com, installed it to the folder the program suggested (Program Files x86/GOG.com/Freespace 2) and directed the Open Source files to that directory.
I downloaded Open Freespace from FSO Installer.

I guess the installer is corrupt. The game says it's the mod files that are corrupt, not the source. When I play the game, indeed the resolution update is working, but when I shoot, I don't get laser effects. I hear the shots, but I see nothing. The drone which comes is invisible too (I play the first level).

Please post your log file, fs2_open.log, located in /FreeSpace 2/data/. We'll sort the problem out.

You've done something very odd. You do not have the MediaVPs, Blue Planet, or any mods whatsoever set up. It's not a matter of anything being corrupt, it's not present at all.

Could we get a screenshot of your FreeSpace 2 directory, please?

You know, you need to actually enable the Blue Planet mod in the Launcher.

Guys and Gals,

I think I see the problem. I didn't select a mod. I thought, as I just want to play FreeSpace updated, not with a mod, I don't have to select it, but I see that I had to select the mediavps (3.6.12 in this case).

I don't know about the 3613_Update.vp, though. I just downloaded both Free Space 2 from GOG.com and the Open Source from fsoinstaller.com, followed the steps (except for selecting the mod) and off I tried to go...

I see this thread is in the Blue Planet section. I got to this thread using the search engine, but it was actually more of a general question (regular FS2 in Open FS2).

Hang on, though, are you trying to play Blue Planet or just regular FS2?

For regular FS2 with graphical upgrades, select 'mediavps_3612'; for Blue Planet select either blueplanet or blueplanet2.

Be sure to use a release build, not a debug build!

I just played the first mission and the three training missions. Ah, man, such a good game. I played the first one years ago. I got it with my Logitech Force Feedback Joystick.

Everything seems to work fine. I thought I may still have some problems with the music, but I see that unlike FS1, FS2 doesn't have music in the training missions.

Can I play FS1 with the updates, by the way? (Too lazy to find out).

There is the FSPort Mod, which ports the original FS1 to FSO.

You can indeed play FS1; just select FSPort_MediaVPs.
