Yes, work on a sequel has started.
At this point, it is mostly model and effects creation along with a rework of the tables. In other words, getting the basic framework/foundation ready.
Release is still a long long way off, but I'm sure the wait shall be worth it! There are some great ideas in the pipeline.
Or at least, so I would like to think

AWESOME
-
Is that a Fura'ngle bomber? Certainly has an odd kind of charm... but why is it fighting against LSF ships?
Traitors still loyal to the Hertak? Some diplomatic disaster? Or maybe just showcase :P
-
It might not be a chronological sequel, it could be happening concurrently with the events of WoD...
-
Spoon you are brilliant but those were about the two ****tiest screenshots you could've picked. Look at the composition! Half of them is empty space! Center your subjects, Junior Photographer Third Class!
-
That Fur'Angle ship looks really awesome, early texturing and all.
Are those LSF ships not reflective for some reason? I really liked that property of theirs, and thus hope you didn't remove it.
Also, of course :jaw:
-
Yeah they should be shinier.
-
I look forward to the CSA deploying a capital ship that makes Armageddons look pansy. :P
-
Oh YES, this is what I wanted to hear from you guys.
Good news, this makes my crappy day a better day
-
I look forward to the CSA deploying a capital ship that makes Armageddons look pansy. :P
And I look forward to these badass Zy capital ships that we've heard so much about.

You are totally right Sir Tutta.
I apologize!
You'll just have to use your (http://img824.imageshack.us/img824/1911/1247321127719.jpg) to fill in the blank space!
Is that a Fura'ngle bomber? Certainly has an odd kind of charm...
After being liberated from the Hertak, the Fura'ngle once again had free reign to use their advanced technology to its fullest potential. The Diva is very heavy fighter that employs weapons that will make you poop your pants.

They are still reflective. It's just that the paint job on LSF ships that are not in the JGASF are darker and thus look a lot less reflective.

And I look forward to these badass Zy capital ships that we've heard so much about.
On that note, Axem has already made some sweet progress on the first CSA capship. His modelling skillz beat mine by a long shot, so I'm very happy with his work
-
Oh awesome! I'll get in the dev IRC soon, not as busy at uni this week :D
-
That is now my facebook profile picture.................
Also,   to the sequel. More hertak please
-

Ah, yes, like the Alligator and the ships in A Nordera Day. Different battle groups have different colors, right?
Also, does that mean we aren't going to play as the JGASF?
-
Wings of Dawn 2: Now 50% Dawnier!
-
Darker the edgier sequel ;)
-
Also, does that mean we aren't going to play as the JGASF?
Or it might just mean that the JGASF is working together with the regular LSF military....
-
Good news! Looking forward to WoD 2. :)
-
Hah, I just realised that I don't associate the 00 Gundam theme with Gundam, I associate it with WoD
-
I've been having that issue with Decisive Battle. :doubt:
-
Why ask? WoD 2 is a great idea!
What about moar dakka?
-
If one of ideas I have for WoD goes in, you'll see a gatling autocannon with ROF that approaches real-life gatling guns. :)
The only reason it doesn't go even further is that engine has difficulties with handling these levels of more dakka (of course, I made sure that it won't cause problems).

By real-life Gatling guns, you wouldn't be referring to the M61 Vulcan? The M61A2 has a rate of fire of 110 rounds per second, so is FSO capable of handling something that's even approaching that? Although, considering we used a 55mm autocannon in WoD1, your weapon would probably be closer to the GAU-8 Avenger which fires at the sedate pace of seventy rounds per second.
Either way, it sounds freaking awesome. Spoon, add Dragon's weapon!

Wings of Dusk

Three times more grimdark

Hopefully, no. There's already plenty of grim'n dark FS2 campaigns. No need to make one that isn't into one of those
-
Take away Misuzu and Infi and even WoD 1 is pretty dark.
I mean most of the time your faction is losing terretory no matter how well they are doing.

The gatling autocannon currently fires at 2400 rpm, which translates to 40 rounds per second. This is about how fast GAU-8 Avenger used to fire when it still had toggleable ROF (it doesn't now) or an M134 Minigun on a low setting. Due to the type of shells it uses, it's vastly more powerfull than GAU-8. It is also capable of loading different shells for various purposes. I would have said more, but any other information regarding this weapon is classified level Omega. :)

**** that. Light bubbly anime style~!
Or at least sufficient awesome.

I dunno, "darker and edgier" is the vibe I get from the screenshots. Also Spoon not denying Ypoknos' comments.
-
Well, since the JGASF doesn't appear in those screenshots, and they have the shiny white ships, without them, everything seems darker.
Or it may be Spoon's launcher flags, who knows.

QFT
-
Will most of the old cast be reappearing.
-
I guess Misuzu, Crystal and Dawn being in it is a given.
Apart from them aren't Kuonichi (or somthing like that - the shy one with the inferiority complex) and Justice the only other ones still in the JGASF, with Justice being instructor rather than pilots?
-
Tempest and Milkshake are still there too.
-
WoD2: Now with 85% more tentacle rape :p
-
And also, the dreaded notebook containing unspeakable fan art is found floating around in space...truth always finds a way.
-
Now that you mention tentacles:
Will we be seeing that Cordi battleship type that the pilots talked about before Crystal rescued their queen?

Actually, no.
WoD II will have a mostly new cast, looking at things from a slightly different perspective.
Well, since the JGASF doesn't appear in those screenshots, and they have the shiny white ships, without them, everything seems darker.
Or it may be Spoon's launcher flags, who knows.
And much to my embarrassment, I only recently realized that my launcher flags were indeed completely different from the ones I usually have.
Here's take 2, now with less empty space and slightly brighter lighting :p

There will be new ship designs for every race
-
@first pic: DO WANT!
:jaw:
-
That Fur'Angle ships looks awesome. Quite 'solid', too. It wouldn't look out of place in ASW, IMO.
Will you still be playing as a JGASF member?
-
Oh my... I just imagined some green JGASF rookie saying "Misuzu-sensei"...
-
Oh my... I just imagined some green JGASF rookie saying "Misuzu-sensei"...
That sound you heard was Crystal's brain exploding.
-
There better be some more anime tropes in this new cast. The rich ***** with the OH HO HO HO laugh (wasn't Tempest rich or something?) and the tsundere for starters. We already have the shy girl (Kunoichi), the leader (Crystal), the angry warrior girl (Milkshake), the mysterious girl (Dawn, also doubling as the deadpan snarker) and the 'I'm awesome' girl (Misuzu)
-
What we really need is someone with glasses.
-
No no no, we need a Head Ani (preferably whoever's in command) doing the Gendo Pose.
It worked for JAD, why not here?
-
No no no, we need a Head Ani (preferably whoever's in command) doing the Gendo Pose.
It worked for JAD, why not here?
Why not both? We can have normally nice commander girl with glasses abruptly bust out the Gendown'd and Just As Planned when the mission is going extra-well.
Or alternately in response to inter-crew dating.
-
What we really need is someone with glasses.
Usually the shy girl. We don't know if Kunoichi wears them.
-
Due to all the genetic engineering, bad eye sight is very rare among terrans these days.
Glasses are pretty much a thing of the past in WoD
Sorry :p

I didn't say they needed glasses, just that they wear glasses. After all, The Glasses Come Off is a common anime trope too. (And if StrikerS can have a freaking Combat Cyborg wear glasses you don't need an excuse.)

Also a >:3 face, or a º3º one.
-
"No sir, I swear I had nothing to do with this incident! There's no way I could have taken on 7 Excellion class fighters while flying that junk heap."
"So you keep saying pilot, but we have over 8 witness reports stating otherwise. And surely I don't have to remind you that this isn't the first incident involving you and LSF fighters."
"2 of those were obviously fabricated in an attempt to tarnish my good reputation!"
"And the other 3?"
"I, uh..."
"Enough. You are dismissed for now. This isn't the last you've heard about this."
"Yes sir..."
"Ugh, what a day...
Now... what was my room code again...?"

plz maek sentimental shooting mod
-
Me interested, where can I get it?
-
plz maek sentimental shooting mod
Oh noez...
-
Sentimental Shooting? I've heard of that.
It's Touhou with porn, right?
-
If that's the case, it is time for some shipping then.
-
Sentimental Shooting? I've heard of that.
It's Touhou with porn, right?
It is nothing like Touhou, actually, except that they are in the same genre. But that's about where the similarity ends.
-
It's Touhou with porn, right?
I suspect this statement is redundant.
Sentimental Shooting is a Raiden clone with the "ground targets" being girls' clothes.
-
It's Touhou with porn, right?
I suspect this statement is redundant.
It isn't. At least in the games.
-
It isn't. At least in the games.
This is extremely arguable considering the rather serious fetishistic overtones Touhou loves to drop.
-
There's no actual porn in the games.
-
If porn is implied, is it porn?
If a tree falls in the forest, does it make a sound?
-
It isn't even implied. There is no sexual content in the Touhou games. None whatsoever. I honestly have no idea what NGTM-1R is talking about with "fetishistic overtones", but I suspect it's some fan-derived thing not present in the games themselves (I'll grant you that the fans come up with huge amounts of Rule 34 with regard to the series, but then, fans do that with any series).
...
We're getting quite off-topic, aren't we? :nervous:
-
Quick question: will you include music from the Raildex series again?
-
probably not
-
Q: Are you going to hire a music composer?
Q: (Probably redundant.) Are you going to use the fiction viewer for storytelling purposes? If so, will its use be heavy?
-
No
and
Haven't decided yet but right now I'm leaning to no, because the command briefing has room for .ani's the fiction viewer (as far as I know) does not.
-
Seems reasonable.
Q: How many new designs do you intend to create for WoD 2?
-
As many as are deemed needed :p
-
You most make estimates! ;)
-
Are you going to expand the soundtrack for WoD2?
If yes I think Final mission - Quantum Burst (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9199GFql3A) from the Gundam 00 movie would be great if used in the right situation or more likely pieces of it. It does change around quite a bit, since it was compsed to fit the film and it's changing situation during the end fight and it's over 8 minutes long.
-
I'm waiting for him to drop Nanoha music in there.
You know you want to, Spoon...
-
I can see it now:
Prometheus Frame, SET UP! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CjD7Hht9nlk) :D
In all seriousness, certain Nanoha music could actually work well. Especially if it's from the movie.
-
Or music from the My- series. I for one wouldn't mind more Raildex music
-
After reading the few previous post, i was wandering what kind of music will be good for Wing of Dawn. I then listened the music of the space anim that i liked. I think that Nanoha music can work well. A found a site with some music of Outlaw star, the music styl is different of actual wing of dawn but maybe you can found in a little of contrast. http://www.angelfire.com/realm/of_olsmusic/ but i don't know if the quality is sufficent.
Personaly i'm a big fan of turrican II music, but it's not a manga music.
-
Considering that manga are the japanese equivalent of comic books, as in writing and pictures only, there is no manga music :P
And neither is there really Anime music. Anime is as varied as movies with real actors, and thus their soundtracks can also be everything, from almost 8 bit midi like to the orchestral and big choirs and everything in between and beyond.

-
Q: Are we going to see more cutscenes (missions+ actual cutscenes)?
-
No cutscenes are planned at the moment
-
Not at all? Why?
-
Ingame cutscenes will happen at some point (just none are planned atm), out of game cutscenes are too much work, never going to do that again :p
-
Really? I thought you found them easy to create, and therefore expected to see more in WoD2.
-
Ingame cutscenes will happen at some point (just none are planned atm), out of game cutscenes are too much work, never going to do that again :p
Damnation, this means no more Aestival mecha sequences. :(
-
Exactly the kind of cutscene I would have loved to see in WoD2. :(
-

What about... In-game mecha sequences... :nervous:
-
Those are a completely different matter, and IMO would kill the awesome nature of WoD. Someone may still find them wonderful, though.
-
Those are a completely different matter, and IMO would kill the awesome nature of WoD. Someone may still find them wonderful, though.
lol how would it do that.
-
Axem did one such sequence for Just Another Day. Why not use that?
-
The mechas were static in that one.
-
Getter and I talked about using turrets to simulate head an arms once...
-
How would mechs ruin WoD it's just make it so much more awesome it'd implode from awesomeness singularities or something and there's a hole in the event horizon and spiral nemesis and lol its 2am
-
How would mecha-Aestivals ruin WoD? The only thing WoD is currently missing is giant robots.
-
Why would Aestivals need to transform into robots anyway? They are pretty overpowered as they are.
I wonder if newer Cyrvan strikecraft also transform into robots.
-
Why would Aestivals need to transform into robots anyway?
For breaking alien bug queens out of needlessly massive Flagships, apparently. :p
-
They aren't needlessly massive. Hertak rulers have small penises.
-
-
Why would Aestivals need to transform into robots anyway?
BECAUSE IT'S ANIME DAMMIT.
-
But robots in space isn't reali- ARGH!
*Jellyfish was never seen again*
-
While I am normaly against space mecha, WoD is the perfect game for them to exist, and I would absolutely love to see them in WoD. Like, I'd cream myself if I saw flying mecha ingame. Macross style!
-
Been loving mecha shows since I was a little kid. Will suspend disbelief for them any day.
-
Mechas are fine, even just playing C&C Red Alert 3 you probably feel like everyone wants mechas these days.
Another thing, Is it just me, or anyone think that the Guardian Angel seems too small to be a carrier type ship. Don't need to be the size of an Orion, but I just think it needs to be somewhat bigger.
-
The Guardian Angel could easily support a fairly small fighter complement, 16 to 24. This is, admittedly, probably too small to make a good fleet carrier (which should be able to both mount a strike and still deploy a strong defense), but it's workable for an escort carrier.
-
Well the Nimitz class carrier is 330m in length and it carries around 90 planes/heli's
The GA may not seem that big, but its actually 900m in length
-
How much of that 900m is landing/takeoff strip?
-
In term of firepower yes, I just think that the fighter bays feels a little crammed to carry all those fighters.
-
How much of that 900m is landing/takeoff strip?
The two forward prongs are about half of it
-
GA is a medium assualt carrier, which is meant to carry fighters into battle and survive in it, but not for heavy direct combat or large scale operations.
-
The two forward prongs are about half of it
Plus ship systems and considering their fighters seem to be fairly large...maybe 36-40 fighters. That'd make it a light fleet or large escort carrier. Still not able to mount a real strike and defend itself at the same time, but more than suitable to provide cover and scouting/early warning to a battlegroup.
-
So what kind of carrier was the LSF usining, or maybe is still using, before the GA was build? In the campaign you never see any carriers, but with that many fighters it's unlikely they have non.
Will we see them, or their successors, in WoD2?
-
(http://img692.imageshack.us/img692/3108/champj.png)
That would be the champion, it'll still be in service by the time of WoD2. A large number of these ships have been build yet losses of this class has been few
-
Does the LSF have a battleship to go with that carrier?
-
Does the LSF have a battleship to go with that carrier?
The Knight. It's been mentioned in WoD1 already. =p
-
Yeah. I couldn't find where though, so I just took a blind stab at getting a picture from Spoon. Looks like I rolled a one.
-
That would be the Crusader
(http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/8237/75147176.png)
-
So how's that going?
Can we get some pics?, some new frikkin awesome function? (love that last video with the afterburner thingy).
-
(http://img706.imageshack.us/img706/1212/gnmissiles.png)
weeeee
-
omg, it's full of particles.
-
Nuke's particle stuff? , looks pretty
-
That looks like fun.
-
I'm not sure it looks like fun, primarily because I think I'm look at some Space Elf's drive trails.
-
Wat? no, those are missile trails... I guess.
-
(http://img706.imageshack.us/img706/1212/gnmissiles.png)
weeeee
So Macross/Galaxy Angel.
I love it :3
-
or is it some weird space elf energy weapon
-
Considering how baffled they were about the Fura'ngles guided lasers I somehow doubt that, unless you mean missiles with energy-based warheads (like the ones the Cyrvan missiles had in WoD 1 already).
-
Blargh, I had a long post written but it got eaten by maintenance :(
Unforunately dont feel like typing it all out again. (I raged when I hit back on the browser and it was all gone)
So here's a screenie
(http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/1436/woda.png)
Currently reconverting a lot of the wod1 ships, fixing collision errors, seams, smoothing and in some cases adding debris and lods.

Do I see a Cyrvan ship of some sort there? Aw yeah!
-
This looks really cool! I believe in your ability to tell an interesting story... just one question:
Is there any possible way there might be some Cowboy Bebop music in there? too good, too bad (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUTMw7rEsDk) or cats on mars (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97xfV6yXcrk)
Or maybe some of Yoko Kanno's music for Macross Plus (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QablnaV9p-4) and Macross Frontier (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzGX8pykamo)? Or anything she's ever done, ever? (Vision of Escaflowne (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYf7NluE5D4), Wolf's Rain (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtY2WKS_od0), Ghost in the Shell: SAC (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nO4AGB6-O9), Brain Powerd (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qopVp43tSAg)
Anyway, I am a bit of a flaming Kanno fanboy.
(alright, it was two questions)
(another kickass Brain Powerd track, just cause...) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qopVp43tSAg)
-
First off, welcome to HLP guitarfan01 :)
Cowboy music is pretty distinct/jazzy, its quite a bit different from the music used in WoD so far.
I do have a pretty much every track Yoko kanno made on my pc (just in a wierd .ape format, need to convert that) so I'm definitely going to be looking for tracks there
Do I see a Cyrvan ship of some sort there? Aw yeah!
*gasp*
What gave it away?
-
I think it was the ring. :p
-
I was about to call it a Cordi ship, actually. Or a Cyrvan/Cordi hybrid.
The green texture looks Cordi to me.
-
Aestivals are green.
And noone notices that its not a Battleaxe getting carved up :P
-
I worked so hard on the Nordera Blacksmith too. :(
-
'Blacksmith' I hear? A better version of the Battleaxe, I hope. Or one without the Hertak kill protocol.
Still, the parts of the image that weren't ambient_factor'd to oblivion look awesome.
Aestivals are green.
A light shade of green, and it was reflective. This is opaque dark green. Cordi green.
-
Any capital ships for the Zy?
-
First off, welcome to HLP guitarfan01 :)
Thanks! I've been lurking on the Diaspora board (and before that, BTRL ...on the other forum) for years, but I have just recently come to explore the rest of HLP and FSO. I'm just starting to play the 3.6.12 version of the retail FS2 campaign now, thanks to GOG. I played TIE Fighter, X-Wing, X-Wing Alliance, Descent, Wing Commanders 3-Prophecy all when they came out, but never FreeSpace until now.

Yoko Kanno really is a great composer. He (or she? I actually don't now) is for Anime what Jeremy Soule is for computer games.
-
Nice Job Spoon. Had a lot of fun with the first WoD, eagerly awaiting this one.
-
And noone notices that its not a Battleaxe getting carved up :P
To be fair, it has nearly the same basic shape. We just thought it had bee massively prettified.
-
True that.
The sidepods are on opposite sides though :P
-
Yoko Kanno really is a great composer. He (or she? I actually don't now) is for Anime what Jeremy Soule is for computer games.
She.
More of a fan of Yuki Kajiura's work myself, but Yoko Kanno is nothing short of amazing.
-
I do know Yuki Kajiura (his/her work in Madoka and My-HiME were awesome) but Yoko Kanno goes right above my head.
What did she do?
-
The way I hear it, Everything, but the only thing I know she was involved in was Cowboy Bebop. Oh, and Macross Plus.
-
First thought: Google it.
More Direct Answer: Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and other utterly awesome stuff.
Another artist to potentially look up: MELL
-
Wow, she really has done the music for everything. Or at least, everything I've bothered watching.
So Spoon, if it isn't revealing too much, how big are some of the battles in WoD2 going to get? You have a skill with throwing hordes of ships into a mission and not letting it turn into a BOE, which is awesome and I'm curious as to whether or not you were going to expand on that.

Don't forget Vision of Escaflowne. You can think of the series what you will, but the soundtrack is really great.

To be honest, I can't stand most of Kanno's work outside of her more well-known series. :P

Some of the new capital ships produce a tremendous amount of firepower on their own, So much that I'm afraid that I'll hit the object limit :p
It's likely that on average, WoD2 will have less ships on screen than WoD1 did

Aw. The BoE's (except good) were fun. But, you've already proven your abilities as a FREDer, so I'm sure that whatever you end up doing in WoD2 will be awesome.

Thanks :)

On the topic of music that would be epic...
I know you're probably aware of the the Precursors remixing project for Star Control II's music, Spoon, seeing as you used a couple of their themes in WoD 1.
But what about "Mortal Melee (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIacllJxAlk)"?
Would be a kickass battle theme, methinks. Imagine taking on a fighter swarm to that. ;7

wait, if the terrans already use the champion and crusader, then what would the knight be?

Or the Templar?

Dragoon!
