So i want to learn how to mod things for freespace or at least just mess around. My knowledge of computer matters such as this is zilch. so i downloaded blender and it says that i need to download python to make it work. thus it took me to the python website and im presented with several options
•Gzipped source tar ball (2.6.6) (sig)
•Bzipped source tar ball (2.6.6) (sig)
•Windows x86 MSI Installer (2.6.6) (sig)
•Windows X86-64 MSI Installer (2.6.6) [1] (sig)
•Windows help file (sig)
•Mac Installer disk image (2.6.6) (sig)
i have no idea which one to use (except ik not to use the Mac one) and most of all i dont know where to put the dowloaded files.
Any help appreciated thx

If you're on 32 bit Windows, you need the x86 MSI installer. If you're using 64 bit Windows, you need the x86-64 version.
If you have problems with blender, consult the blender forums at blender.org.

dumb question time. how do i know if my computer is 32 bit or 64?
-
On Windows 7 or Vista, Go to the "System" menu in the Control panel. Look for "System Type".
On win XP, you are on a 32 bit OS.

ok thx. and where do i put the files?

It's a setup file. Put it wherever the hell you'd normally put a download, then run and install it as usual.
Python, according to Windows, is just another program.

Wrong, I've got a 64-bits XP.
(But he would know it if he had a XP-64)

I thought it worked fine just as is - the zip file version works on all the computers I use from my USB...
