Title: Where does one get sounds?
Post by: StargateSpankyHam on November 12, 2010, 01:31:11 am
Where do modders go to get new sounds for weapons? Specifically, I need different firing sounds for the BFRed.

There are collections of stock sound effects available for free on the web. Using those resources, and a bit of audio editing magic, can do wonders.

Speaking of sounds... does anyone have any or know of any deep "thud" sound for heavy plasma guns (something kinda like Saga's amg sound)?

Sounddogs...awesome! Thanks guys!

Also, Scooby_Doo, if you need a firing sound for a large plasma weapon, check out the sounds in the Tides of Darkness mod - I'm using Super_Cannon.wav for the firing sound for the Shivans' ultra-heavy plasma cannon. Also, I've put three .wav files together into one for a plasma torpedo launcher sound. Shoot me an email at [email protected] if you want.

If you're looking for impact sounds though...perhaps use one of the missile explosions?

I take 'em from other games :nervous:

That one in particular is from Universe at War: Earth Assault. (most likely, seeing as all the custom sfx from ToD is from there anyway) :P

I guess that is how missile, explosion, and gun sounds from Descent 3, Quake 3, Quake 4, and Doom 3 somehow ended up in free mods...

If I knew that it was 100% legal, I'd pop a DVD of stargate atlantis into my PC, open up one of the episodes where they shoot things, and use the stereo mix function to record the audio of Asgard plasma beam cannons.  :doubt:

Composite sounds work as well for explosions to give them texture (e.g. the sound for the Narayana main guns was a mixture of a normal explosion, thunder rumbles, people screaming and a lion's roar).

So awesome, too.

Just listened to it in Winamp, and... wow. :eek2:

So the mass drivers are powered by a guy being eaten by a lion? :p
