Title: GTD Valiant
Post by: EdrickV on April 30, 2002, 03:41:23 am
Introducing: The GTD Valiant. (Assuming the class name's not already used.)

My latest toy. :>
Features include, of course, a fly through hanger.
Haven't hull tested it yet, but this one I'm going to try and finish myself. :)

(And no, this is not the AWACs I've mentioned before, that one's undergoing FS2 geometry fixes for faces that don't show up. :) At least it's geometry wasn't as bad as the Stinger's.)

I also have a fighter (two versions),  a freighter, a corvette, (which I may toss out for you guys to play with, it was my first Wings3D model and I'm not happy with it.) another destroyer, and something called the Valor that was going to be a corvette or destroyer but looks more like an airplane. (I'll probably upload the Valor for people to play with tomorrow, I abandoned it to make the Valiant. :))

Interesting design.  What's it gonna be armed with?

I like it. If it's textured nicely (colourfully, as in blue/black and other bits in addition to normal, boring old greys, would be interesting) it'd look really great.

Very Nice!

What's the poly count on that?

Awesome design!
Gives me a sort of Taiidan Destroyer feeling. :D

Impressive work indeed. I'm currently working myself with something like this. But it already has about 12000 polys so heheheheheh ;7

Nice.... Reminds of somewhat a Corellian corvette. Just a bit.  :yes2:;)

Right now it's poly count is at 666. :wtf: But that will probably go up once I start fixing non-planer faces. Haven't thought about turrets much yet. As far as texturing, I'll have to give my bitmap copies of the regular game textures a good look through and see what I can make with them. But first comes the hull test. :) It's come a long way considering it started out as one of these:

A very wee little bit. I can see the similarity, but just barely. :D

Nope. I made it with the Open Source Wings3D. A very odd program that doesn't actually have an exe. :) It uses the Erlang general-purpose programming language and runtime environment. For mesh building it's a lot better then TS1, though it's not good for texturing. (You can make UV maps with a plug-in for it though.)

I like it.  I want it.  Not that I need it for my project, I just want it anyway.

Nice draft renderer.

Oh, er- and nice ship. It's just that the rendering caught my attention first. I like the forward-sweeping detailings on the front, do well with the backfacing ones on the rear. Its general design is one people use a bit much in my opinion (the narrow-waisted variety of capship), but you pull it off well here. Is that a seam down the middle?

Personally I seem to like the rather fat variety of capship that won't break apart if exposed to beams.

The waist is to narrow, but otherwise, it rocks. Nice work. :D

Gimme the mesh to mess with. I love playing with other people's meshes. ;)

lol...me too...its really fun when the finished product doesn't resemble the original.

When I first saw it, I thought straight away - 'Another Anime Ship', but I think it's more the black lines than anything else. Good Stuff.

That's actually not a render. :) It's a screenshot. I cropped out the menu and toolbar stuff. My copy of Wings3D doesn't seem to have any rendering stuff. (It has a Render menu item but it's submenu is empty. Maybe some plug-ins would go there.) And I did a cut thing, like the Deimos has, almost the length of the ship with some side branches. Will post a pic with the "cut" selected so it's easier to see where it is. (When Wings3D saves it even saves the currently selected faces and you can also "store" a selection for later use by "recalling" it, adding it with the currently selected stuff, (union) or subtracting from the currently selected stuff. (I think, never tried the subtract) :)

The second pic is here:

Not quite ready to upload the Valiant. Want to try texturing it first now that I think I'm figuring out how to use a UV plug-in for Wings3D along with Lithunwrap/UVWrapper. :D
I will, however, release the Valor, as I mentioned elsewhere.

Do whatever you want with the Valor. As far as I'm concerned it's now public domain. :) I would be interested in seeing pics of it if you make something cool from it. This is the model I was working on before the Valiant. I wanted to make a corvette or destroyer, and this one just didn't fit the bill so I started over.

That second angle makes it look kinda like a fish. That's very cool. :D

wow you should add some sort of "Sail" and make it into a science ship, FS serverley lacks science ship, mmm this gives me an idea :)
Title: Hmmm
Post by: Firgeis on May 01, 2002, 02:50:55 pm
It more reminds of a Nebulon B frigate than a Corellian corvette
....

However i would do it like a Fighter Carrier, with no beams just some light anti-fighter weaponry........

The Valiant would be a bit too big for a science ship the way I'm imagining it. Now, though, I'm getting ideas of my own and I will have to make a science ship. And it won't have just a rotating sail. :D But first, I think I'm going to try and make some turrets and things that I'll be able to put on some of my models. The mesh on the Valiant isn't finalized either, I haven't hull tested it yet. (Should do that today. Along with my Awacs.)
