Title: What Will the Source Code Mean for TAP?
Post by: Rampage on April 30, 2002, 07:46:07 am
Ever since the release of the Freespace 2 source code, I wonder what will happen to some of the fan-made projects such as TAP.  So let me ask you first, what will the source code mean for this project?

One Thing: Infestation Beams!

Another Thing: Mimic

Perhaps a whole lot later. For now, the only realistic things we can expect to be in the demo are fighter beam weapons and ending a mission without player jumping out.

We won't see mimics or cloakable ships for a long time.

What I would REALLy want, would be some fixes for the turret axis code, but AFAIK making those fixes would be pretty difficult :(

Were there not problems with getting more than one salvage corvette to attach to a frigate due to the fact that only one ship can dock at any one time, you/we/I/someone else could change that.

Ahh, Pera, I see you're a Douglas Adams fan, hooray!

You see, I'd much rather be happy than right any day!
The fact that i'm not happy is where it all falls down of course.

Ahh... Now there's one thing that would be useful. Let's just hope it's not a too complicated thing to change.

You can FRED a cloak ship. Just have it jump in and out with no warp affect.

Nice to have ya here Alex. So you didn't give up on Freespace after all. ;)

Anywa, since we are talking about programming, what do I need to be able to edit the source code? What do you guys recommend?

Are you joking?

You can NOT learn C++ overnight(I believe thats what the source is written in, I never downloaded it :p).

You'd have to take classes and stuff to know how to properly edit the source and add things, and even then its very hard b/c the source is all 'solidified' you could say.

All big, complex programs are written in C++
