Bit of a random topic. . But I approve highly.
Two pics dear to my heart are here (http://www.defenceimagedatabase.mod.uk/fotoweb/Preview.fwx?position=16&archiveType=ImageFolder&sorting=ModifiedTimeAsc&search=eod&fileId=096F9B16531325BF2AA3431E60D7BC7EDBCC065CDE190622B020D12FD38A9F0881BD9CF98E18691A6E71D16C017CB326FEECFF00FD78EE23650C0182E59FA04C650C0182E59FA04C4508DF206A85BDA0612B705DA0A729F867556C690D907C19524747A5E826B0CDA16C3973FD7C42F2C0FD48D5B97DB3386032C9888E6AB04AD78EB28386A4F11A) and here (http://www.defenceimagedatabase.mod.uk/fotoweb/Preview.fwx?position=15&archiveType=ImageFolder&sorting=ModifiedTimeAsc&search=eod&fileId=096F9B16531325BF2AA3431E60D7BC7EDBCC065CDE190622B020D12FD38A9F0881BD9CF98E18691A6E71D16C017CB326FEECFF00FD78EE23650C0182E59FA04C650C0182E59FA04CD0F2ED584D46D07B612B705DA0A729F867556C690D907C19524747A5E826B0CDA16C3973FD7C42F2C0FD48D5B97DB3386032C9888E6AB04AD78EB28386A4F11A). No reason other than I've done the same countless times. Even the Fallout looking one with a jerry can. Every Squaddie knows how to make **** tea lol.

Those first few images made me think of this story (http://swampland.blogs.time.com/2010/11/29/just-in-time-for-the-holidays/) :( Sad end for such a proud ship.

The RN never really recovered from letting Beattie get off for screwing the pooch at Jutland.

I don't understand why you folks never museum your warships. The States has a fleet of museums from age of sail to aircraft carriers. I mean ****, you didn't even preserve the HMS Dreadnought. :P

The USS Hornet is a museum ship and it was pretty cool being there during my trip to the westcoast

I know. What a ****ing disgrace. Whichever wanker approved it should be shot several times and dragged underneath the keel of that vessel until the Royal Navy places its entire ORBAT as a bid for the item.
;)

wat. :wtf:
A decommissioned ship needs to be disposed off. In the absence of plans to keep it around as a museum, selling for scrap is a valid option. No "disgrace" about it.

But what if Kim Jong-Il buys it?!

With what? His film collection? :P

Maybe they could use the money?

Then there's this.

It's a shame they're scrapping these carriers which have been far more useful than the Trident program, and still had a few years left in them until the QE carriers arrived (from how I see it all the way in Australia anyway).

The rate things are going we will be lucky to get QEs before the next decade :(

In most cases that is true, but the Dreadnaught was special because it single handedly started a major historical trend in ship design.

I agree. Though the US screwed up by scrapping the CV-6 big E.. which got as close to possible to match the term "hero ship".
