Yeah, my players stats all just reset. How do I avoid this in the future? And how do I make backups of my pilot in case it does?
I looked around and I found one thread where soemone asked, someone else said it was a known bug, and that was all. And I looked in all the folders that seemed likely to hold my saves (unless I missed an obvious one).
Thanks for any tips.

Until the new pilot code hits in the next SCP release, you'll probably not want to get attached to your pilots, since you need to create a new one for every mod and you'll likely lose them all making the transition to 3.7. You'll also need to create a new pilot when you move into any mod that uses an Inferno build.
Once the new release is ready and out, you'll be able to use the same pilot across mods.
-
Oh.
When is that due?
-
Sometime early next year.
-
What Mr. Coder The_E said.
I have been playing with builds with the new pilot code for some time and it seems quite nice.
-
Well if it's actually FS1 the new pilot code isn't going to help a bit. Now if it's FSPort then when E said.
-
Oh, wow, somebody playing real vanilla FS1, not FSPort?
Huh. I know nothing about it.
-
Sorry, I am new and have not yet mastered the lingo, I am playing FSPort.
So how about the pilot files, can't I just back them up for now, or is there really just no point?
-
You can back them up to prevent any corruption that might occur before the switch to the new pilot code, but after the new pilot code is out (at least from what I've heard) you'll have to start afresh anyway. But the new pilot code will be awesome, so it'll be worth it!
-
It never hurts to back up data. Just copy data\players to data\players.sav or zip it every so often if your worried about loosing it.
-
Data/players, of course, why didn't I think of it. Thanks.
Any idea on what causes the stats to just reset though? If it is something easily avoidable...?
-
Sometimes playing different mods with the same pilot can cause it. Other than that I'm not sure. I'm sure one of the coders can give you more advice.
-
Using the same pilot to play various mods is the most common cause.
But there are instances where pilot files get corrupted seemingly just because the stars were right; The pilot file rewrite introduces a whole bunch of safeguards to prevent issues and provide better feedback if/when something goes wrong.
-
Well, I never loaded my pilot in a different mod, guess it was just random.
Is this player file rewrite available?
And completely unrelated, when topics are closed by mods, is there some standard used or explanations given anywhere?

No. At the moment, builds with the new code are not available publically.

Yes. If a topic has ceased to follow a topic (topic drift is acceptable, random derailing not) or if a topic has degraded into ad hominems, then a lock will follow closely.
