I'm a little conscious that its been several years (about seven/eight in fact!) since I first mentioned doing a Sol:AH remake, and you guys have seen absolutely nothing on it. In case there were a few really looking forward to it, I thought it polite to put up a status thread on the project. To answer the obvious question, yes I do still want to make the remake as promised. I'm tweaking and polishing on mission outlines, asset lists and the like for beginning production, and have a solid idea of how I wish to take the project. However, production will likely not begin for a while due to several factors.
A major one is that I have recently joined (and risen to one of two leaders for) the TVWP team, which is my first ever mod team placement. I'm still a bit of a n00b to all of it and don't want to fill up my plate too much and cause my projects to suffer, so I want to make good progress on TVWP before I start this project up. Also TVWP (especially U-War's) assets and storyline link into the storyline I have planned for this, so naturally I need to complete that before I can begin this. Additionally, most of the project can't be properly developed until after INFASA is out, as vast numbers of assets will be shared by the two projects (SA:H was after all inspired by the Inferno's EA) and I’m not 100% up to date on their ship list and the like for the project; sounds silly regarding an alternate story project, but I want to try and keep to some aspects of the INFA canon (such as ship/weapon introduction dates and ship capabilities) as well as I can, even as the story veers wildly off (dunno why, I’m just weird like that ).
I did get a dose of second thoughts lately as there's a lot of “Sol Isolation” projects at the moment (which I have no problem with as they all sound excellent), but I've decided to keep it going as I intend to go down quite a different direction to normal FS campaigns with this one. The focus will be much more on a single society slowly collapsing than on the sudden forming of planetary colonies; most of the colonies you see in the first SAH don't even form in fact. The sides will also have far more finite resources than what you see in most FS campaigns; the GTA loyalists start with nothing more than nine/ten cruisers and a single destroyer supporting their fighters/bombers, and the Separatists (the faction that forms in the first campaign) have only so many (outdated) cruisers of their own (even if it is several more). Even some fighter/bomber classes (such as the Ulysses and the Ursa) will be heavily restricted, so you only have so many to last you, especially in the first campaign; when they're gone, they're gone. It takes time for things to stabilize enough for fleet production, and both sides need these small fleets to fight for an entire star system, which I hope will create unique mission design challenges for myself and any team mates that wish to take part in the project when I start advertising for a team, and make a different gameplay experience that players can enjoy alongside the other mods here.
I hope people can forgive the (stupidly) vast period of no activity on this, and that when production does begin the project proves to be worth the wait. This project will be made; that i give you my word on!
Thanks for your time

Would be a pleasure to play your remake. I tried the original Sol :AH some times ago, but don't finished it. I think I will wait now :D

SAH was a good campaign indeed. It was long but diversified and well-thought. Balancing and fredding were good, not the degree of polish of a WiH, but still well above average. So yeah, carry on this, we'll be waiting :)

So, you want a new version of S:AH? Be patient. :)
(And I'm not refering to INFASA here.)
