Title: FSO Launcher gives OpenAL32.dll message, fails to run?
Post by: crazy88boss on December 13, 2010, 06:51:07 am
I apoligize if this topic has been posted before. I just downloaded (after six hours) the "works" via FSO installer. After trying to open the launcher though it gives me that error message (exact error posted at bottom), suggesting that I reinstall it and then another message pops up and says "failed to read flag file". I am trying to set the launcher to this path to:

fs2_open_3_6_12r_INF , but it's still a no go. Mod is set to Mediavps 3.6.12.

Specs: Windows 7 (64 bit)
           ATI Radeon 4600
AMD Phenom II X4 3ghz each
           8+ GB RAM

Sorry, I forget how to submit a debug error. It has been a LONG time since I have had FSO on any computer, sadly. Again, here are my error messages:

1: The program can't start because Open AL32.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem. (Cannot do this, I am completely out of bandwidth now).

2: Failed to read flag file, then launcher pops up and allows me to set mod and graphics like normal, but won't launch.

Any reply would be greatly appreciated, I love what you are all doing here.

OpenAL is a requirement for FSO, I just looked at the downloaded file for it and the zip is 577 kb (half a megabyte give or take) so even if you cant use your internet it takes up nothing if you want to use some one else's and chuck it onto a MP3 player or thumb/flash drive

You'll need to install OpenAL. Make sure FreeSpace 2 and FreeSpace Open were installed to the same directory and that there aren't any UAC problems.
