Works/barebones selection screen still says 3.6.10 instead of 3.6.12.
If I select barebones (presumably any other option as well), it tells me the 3.6.10 Executables cannot be found; this would alarm new users.
Once I get past those warnings, it stays on a blank screen with '0%' at the bottom until I hit 'next', at which point it downloads a bunch of text files, including sections that mention the 3.6.12 executables. But I see no sign of them anywhere on my hard drive.
What's going on with the Barebones option? What are these text files? (They have names like ransomarceihn.txt, blueplanet.txt, so on). Why does it install only them, but not the executables?
Selecting 3.6.10 with MediaVPs gives warnings about not being able to find the 3.6.10 executables or MVPs, then does the same thing...is this an issue on my end? Could my firewall be causing trouble?

While we're on about issues, if you can't connect to Sectorgames the installer craps out on you. Presumably the same is true for any site it can't download the text files it wants from.
-
Hurff. I shall see about expediting a rerelease.
-
Well can anyone confirm my issues? Because I just plain can't get the installer to work. It downloads text files, that's it.
-
I can confirm it. I tried to install fs2 the other night and used barebones to do it (actually I chose them all), and all it did was download a bunch of nano files, and failed to install the rest. I wasn't that desperate for the game, so I just quit the process and went on to do smth else :(.

The installer has had issues for a long time. Best way to do it is to manually install the MediaVPs, Launcher, and Builds.
-
No, the installer was working perfectly and is the best hope we have for getting people to install FSO because manual install should never be required. It needs to get fixed or replaced.

No, the installer was working perfectly
It was? When? For how long? Days? Weeks?
the installer... is the best hope we have for getting people to install FSO
I agree with you. In theory. In theory, communism works. In theory.

It's getting fixed. Please stand by...

communism has never worked. installers work all the time. we need an installer. we do not need communism.

installers work all the time.
And this thread is a testament to that statement.

no, this thread is a testament to the fact that our installer doesn't work right now
-
No, it does work. It works very well. What it doesn't do is handle exceptions, failures, or people fat-finger typo'ing or not paying attention to case sensitivity or mirroring their files or updating their installer txt files.
It does EXACTLY what it is told to do and if it is told to do stupid, it will unfailing DO stupid every single time.
If a mods mirror suddenly disappears and the content is just NOT available for downloading and the maintainer of the file that tells the installer to go there and get it (when it can't) either can't be found or can't be arsed to fix that over sight, it is NOT the Installers fault. So _please_ stop ragging on the damn installer already.

Well I don't mind people blaming my stupidity, but are you sure no one else will?
