Title: truespace RsScn file to POF or COB
Post by: Venicius on December 15, 2010, 03:44:53 pm
I'm having trouble figuring out how to get a model out of truespace 7.61 into either a cob or pof.  Hopefully this is the right place for this!

Haven't messed with cob in ages but the I'm pretty sure the trick was to save as object and select version 6.0 cob.

Is there a better/newer file type I can use?

Not really unless you can export to .dae or get the model into a program that can.  You can save the model in any format you want it's just when you export it to .cob for PCS2 to read you need to save it in version 6.0.

Wow, COB? TrueSpace? I don't think any serious modeler has used them in five years. Consider learning Blender, it exports beautiful .DAE models that newer builds of PCS can import as POF.

Well, I just started on this kind of thing today and Truespace was the first thing I installed.  I have Blender just haven't messed with it yet, but thanks again for the extra info!

while some of my best models were made in truespace, i had never used cob as my export format. i had always used scn. its really the same format, but i found that if you export as a cob, it will always name it selection, which really screws up the autogen. exporting as scn keeps the hierarchy intact much better. its also good to try older formats. when i used truespace i mostly used ts6 and always exported as a ts6 scn file. i had used ts7 but the program was too slow so i went back to 6 for a short time before finally putting the time into learning max.

also considering pcs2 has a pretty good cob/scn importer, id stick to those (with a preference to scn). also note that you want to save in binary mode (cob/scn has an ascii mode in newer versions iirc) otherise pcs2 wont know what to do with it.

Is it possible to get a model from truespace into blender or is that just crazy talk?

hm, just check which formats Blender can import, and which Truespace can export.
3ds should work, maybe obj.

Worst case scenario you can export to cob, use PCS2 to convert it to .dae, and import into blender.

well, 3ds worked!  My ship's now in blender.  Now I just have to learn how to use it better.

Metasequoia might be able to play with that file format. It can even change .COB's into .obj and .3ds strangely enough which I used to get stuff back into Maya to play with it. It's a tiny obscure program though. But Blender can basically do a lot.
