Whatever reviews are out there that don't praise this movie are chock full of "it."
Awesome visuals, music, and had a good story with love, sacrifice, betrayals, redemption, and so on.
Best movie I've seen in the last few years, and there's plenty of throw backs to the original
and computer tech for the nerds. Iron Man and the others as of late don't even compare.
Worth seeing a few times in theaters if you can.
11 out of 10.

i saw a commercial.. i went "ooh shiny, want!"
-
Hrmmm... I read four reviews today, all of which said the plot was incredibly thin.
Rental, methinks.
-
You're missing out on a great movie then.
-
I think I'll see it in the theaters with my buds, but my expectations are for shiny effects more than a good story. I'm pretty confident I'll be correct on the former, and if I am wrong on the latter then all the better. :)
That and the movie uses freaking Daft Punk for its musical score, that's just awesomeness right there.

Mr. Ryan, please, I want a moment.
I went into this movie sneering. I read the crushing io9 review and I watched that RottenTomatoes meter drop. I have no love for the original and I was ready to cut this loose.
I loved this movie. It had a (veiled, but present) genuinely thoughtful hard SF concept, it had an absolutely smashing score that carried the whole film, it had excellent art direction and good cinematography, the action sequences were thrilling in a way that most of the quick-cut pablum of late has not been, the actors were all good (though Olivia Wilde stole the show and Beau Garrett stole my crush object totem) and the plot, for all the holes I can pick out, was compelling and moved along nicely.
There is more clean elegant vision in some of the effects shots of these movies than I've found in entire novels. See it, in 3D if possible, just so you can be sure. It needs the bass and it needs the big screen, not to cover up its story faults but because those touches genuinely help sell the story and its emotional underpinnings.

Amen.
How much of it was in 3D Battuta? I saw it in 2D... it's hard to fit those little glasses over my specs.

You make a compelling argument. I'll put it to the wife for final decision.

Going to try and see it on the weekend. Looks cool... I liked the original for what it was.
-
I hate living here...
Everything comes out laaaaaaate! :sigh:

The plot is rather thin, and there are certainly more than a number of plot and logic holes. But hey, it's a damn pretty movie. If you look past all the techno-babble and Holocaust allegory, it's a good 100 minutes of the best eye candy you're likely to see in a while.
But I really need to shout out the fight-scenes as being particularly spectacular. Plus, Jeff Bridges is ****ing awesome as both C.L.U. and his 80's-slang-spouting, borderline Buddhist Flynn. And if eye-candy and Jeff Bridges awesomeness isn't enough to entice viewership, Olivia Wilde is soooo darn cute. Totally crushing right now. But I just try not to think about what Flynn was doing in that hide-out with her. Alone. For 1000 cycles.

This movie is awesome.

I saw it. It was awesome!
Great special effects, fantastic score and the plot was actually more there than people were saying and I appreciated some of the deeper moments maybe more than some. Oh and the 3D was tastefully done as well. I appreciated all of the references to the original Tron but it was definitely not necessary to see the first one which is a good move on the writers part. The action was extremely cool and the visuals were so clean and crisp. It didn't matter that CLU was dipping into the uncanny valley... it looked right for the part.

Just saw it at IMAX, my Kendo group went to go see it after class. I thought it was great and I advocate battuta's comments most earnestly(well I personally thought Olivia Wilde's character was cuter). I just watched Inception for the first time this weekend so my bar was already set at an unnatural high, while it certainly was no Inception it didn't disappoint. I liked the story, the visuals/art direction were awesome and the score... oh man the score. Those Daft Punk beats reverberating in my sternum literally where worth the price of admission. It'll be interesting to see if they do a follow up, the story was wrapped up sufficiently but certainly left a lot of room to expand and grow.
I am curious what exactly Quorra's real world manifestation technically is, flesh and blood or code made material?
-
Loved it.
Tons of Unix references (I almost laughed out loud when I saw grep), and a few obvious "shout-outs" to free software. Visuals were great. Daft Punk did an AWESOME job with the soundtrack. Story is pretty solid too.

Well, since CLU thought he was going to be able to take over the world with only a few thousand soldiers, we have to presume that he at least thought the programs were going to retain their abilities on the other side of the portal.
That said, the only thing that disappointed me was that we never got to see TRONs face under his visor. I am curious as to what CLU did under there.
-
@Liberator
You could see Tron post CLU2 when he and Flynn were ambushed. But there's nothing in the games
or otherwise to show anything post Rinzler.
-
I try not to think about the ending too hard, since if taken literally it involves a bunch of men with jumpsuits and sticks running around in the streets trying to frisbee things to death. I hope what was implied is that CLU's programs were going to transfer into the systems of the real world, instead of becoming corporeal like Quorra.

I doubt CLU's Command Carrier trying to digitize in Flynn's basement would have been the kick off for a successful campaign.
-
Which shows a flaw in how the programs understand the outside world. Of course, maybe CLU understood it and figured a way around it, and if not, why all the show and pretense. Why not set up a transfer station and nothing else. Lot's of unanswered questions.
-
Have to admit it'd be really interesting to see if we could copy the lightjets
and the light ribbons and make a nice little combat demo out of it.
Trying to avoid semi hard engine trails would add another element in a medium sized play space.
-
Wow, 3D Space GLTron... ;)
