...the Steam holiday sale is now active. Hopefully I can restrain myself from dropping another $120 like last year.
Waiting on Dragon Age, ME2, Fallout: New Vegas, and Assassin's Creed. Just picked up BioShock 2 for $10, which I figured ain't bad =)

WITCHER FOR $5
-
If anyone wants to get me poker night at the inventory or NFS Uncercover I wouldn't object :P
-
I'm kind of glad I have absolutely no money. I'd probably drive myself bankrupt if I did. :p

No you wouldn't. You could get enough games to last you a year on a $100 budget :P
Can't wait until I go to college, then I don't have to ask and then get told that it's too close to Christmas. Just get everything while it's $2 a game.
-
Mass Effect 2 is on 50% off today. That was timely =)
-
I got Fallout 3 GOTY for $20, which is the cheapest I've ever seen it. Same day, they also had both Deus Ex games for $3. I'm not sure what else I'm hoping for. How about you all?
-
I'm hoping for a daily sale of Dragon Knight Saga. If not, I'll pick it up last day of the sale.
-
anyone played these X space sim games? i've never heard of them before, and they are pretty cheap.

lol
talk to belisarius, he worked at egosoft until last week
-
i didn't realize the sales change every day. it's gone now anyway. i've spent $20 now. that's plenty. especially considering it's steam games. :ick:
-
Gah, I've bought a bunch of games already from that sale madness (MADNESS!!). FEARs, Overlords, Monkey Island bundle, Red Faction G, Batman... Flatouts. I was thinking of buying Recettear, then I didn't... ... now I'm having late second thoughts.
-
So far I've bought Mirror's Edge, Star Wars: KOTOR, The Witcher: Enhanced Edition (ROW), Darksiders only for 19,22 €. Can't wait to see what other steals Steam will offer rest of the week. :)
-
I already grabbed KOTOR in an earlier sale. Picked up New Vegas, and a couple of indie games, plus Trine and Torchlight.
-
Bad Company 2 is seriously worth it.
-
i was about ready to get KOTOR, but i read an elevated number of user reviews saying the combat sucks.

For most people who don't want to think while playing, the combat, being turn-based, does suck. But if you're looking for a more traditional RPG experience as well as a great storyline with satisfying endings, get it. I'm assuming we're talking about KOTOR 1 though. KOTOR 2... let's not go there.
-
turn-based doesn't sound like my cup of tea. maybe i'll give it a go eventually, but i've spent enough money for the time being. and i've got 4 new games to keep me occupied.
-
I'm rather upset with how TW: Empire is apparently buggy as hell. At least they're crashing bugs. Mostly. There was that one time where enemy reinforcements entered the map from behind me when it should have been the other end. That didn't go well.
I'm quite fond of the naval combat engine, though. It's a pity the AI doesn't appear to know how to build a navy; my most interesting combats have been in the battle setup, or between merchant fleets. You'd be shocked at the kind of punishment you can absorb with an Indiaman. And Spanish Galleons with 60 guns. That's a Fourth Rate, a line of battle ship for chrissakes.

You're only half-correct there. KOTOR's combat is turn-based only in the background. To player it is very much real-time that can be paused at any time. Take a look at this youtube vid for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBjxiUVJsu4

I've finished the game many times over and to me it clearly stood out as turn-based because that's how it showed up: I'd attack, then my character would pause and the enemy would attack. Rinse, repeat. This is also shown in the fact that you have to queue up attacks and powers, you can't just attack/use powers one after the other with no delay, you have to wait until your next turn.
-
When you say turn-based combat, I think of Fallout or King's Bounty.

In KOTOR the mechanics are turn-based but gameplay itself is real-time with pause function.
-
based on that video i think i made a good call passing on buying it.

Very well, I concede the point to you. I agree with your last sentence there.

Bought Wings of Prey for $6 for my girlfriend - new dogfight buddy, woohoo :D
Also just bought Section 8 for $5. Good price for the game, really solid gameplay, just terribly generic.

I haven't read a wronger statement all day.
The combat is fine. The game is excellent. Play it.
-
Yes. That. "Turn-based" as relating to KOTOR has absolutely nothing to do with the turn-based combat of Fallout or King's Bounty. It is, for all intents and purposes, real-time combat with the ability to pause at will.
-
Anyone here played Dead Space on PC and think it's worth the $6.80?
-
I played it on 360 and rather liked it, I'd spring for it.

... Like Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, and every other RPG made by Bioware before Mass Effect.
So if you liked anyone of those, you will probably like this one too.

*People not liking KotOR*
I don't even
-
He's pretty much correct, mind, KOTOR combat is revoltingly bad in appearance and feel. I honestly can't remember any of the fights except "god this is awful" and I've played through it more than once.
It's worth it, or at least the first is, for the story. But the combat system blows chunks.

Yes and yes.
Also, it's $6.80. That's like a fast food meal. Why is this a question?

As strange as it may seem, there are those of us out there who look upon any combat system that isn't real-time direct-control as being decidedly inferior to the aforementioned. :p
-

how the hell can that statement be wrong? i watched the video of gameplay. i do not like the style. therefore not purchasing the game for myself was GOOD DECISION. what is "wrong" about that? your personal opinion of the combat factors in at exactly ZERO in my enjoyment of the game.

It might have something to do with the fact that neither of the video links you replied to were videos of KOTOR, but rather of games whose gameplay have absolutely nothing to do with the gameplay in KOTOR. So yes, if you made your decision based on the videos linked in the post you were replying to, you did indeed make a bad decision.

i'm sorry but that was what baldur's gate 2 used and dragon age used and planescape torment used and if you don't like those games you will be sent to BADcatraz
-
What if we've never played them because we're fairly sure we won't like said combat systems? :nervous:
-
You're evil.
-
Fair enough.

I would like to categorically state that Lost Planet: Extreme Condition is a perfectly good 'mech combat game ruined by someone getting a JRPG plot that doesn't even BEGIN to be coherent all over it. "This guy is good. Oh hey this guy is actually bad. No he's good. We're going to pick this guy up and treat him like a prisoner. Now we trust him to wander around alone. We're going to treat the player character like crap despite the fact he's the only one who's carrying a gun, having never read Pompey. Hey he actually got fed up with the bull**** and pulled his gun but we're going to screw him over because that was a hologram."
And of course, like all Japanese-influenced mecha stuff, it must end with a very crappily done swordfight between flying robots. In fact, one could argue that it's actually a perfect rendition of what a swordfight between flying robots should be, since they're, you know, flying robots and not fencers.
