Hey guys, I recently installed FS2Open using Turey's installer and have been playing various player-made campaigns. It's all been fantastic, but there's an error that keeps bugging me, one that comes up whenever I use the MediaVPs or a campaign that uses them.
At startup, I'll receive a message that the mod causes several dozen warnings/errors (last I saw was 94), and that tech-support won't be able to help, for reasons unknown (the message box doesn't scroll, so the whole warning message can't be read). I'll take the Blue Planet campaign as an example: I run it, get the message, and can still play the game; but certain lasers don't show up when fired, and modded ships have large gaps in the hulls. At one point, I had to dock my fighter with the Sanctuary, a modded Orion, but when I targeted the fighterbay, I saw nothing but space!
From what I could gather, the problem is somehow solely linked to my computer, but I'm not very tech-savvy and I wanted to see if I were not alone in this. Is anybody having the same issue, or can anyone help?
Thanks,
Cornix

This will be quite easy to fix! Please run a debug build (ends in -d or -debug) by selecting it in the launcher, then navigate to /FreeSpace2/data/ and post the fs2_open.log file.
-
Post your log file

If you're certain that this is caused by the MediaVPs, they're possibly corrupt or you're missing at least one important file. If you're not certain, it is possible that you've messed up with your mod files and the game engine fails because of that.
In any case, the link kindly posted by Topgun will clearly tell you what Batts asked you to do. Your fs2_open.log will reveal what is causing that, and afterwards we can guide you in the right direction.
-
Or the .10 MediaVPs are what is being used, but that shouldn't be the case (even though they are still available for download, the Installer should be pointed at the .12 ones, but if the mod.ini is still pointing at the .10's, then the errors are in regards to the Decals.)

Alright, tried to run in in windowed debug mode (C:\Games\FreeSpace2\fs2_open_3_6_12d_INF.exe), but had this error come up the moment I started:

Check C:\Games\FreeSpace2\data\ . If there is a file called "fs2_open.log" (possibly without the .log extension, depending on your folder settings), please post it here.

I'll do all that, thanks.

Since according to the log FSO fails when opening MV_Assets.vp and your checksum for it does not match the one given here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=70736.0), it is safe to assume that your MV_Assets.vp is corrupted. Please try redownloading it.

If that doesn't work check your entire FS2 directory structure for any filename longe then 31 characters including the .ext. Start with data\missions and data\players.
-
I won't be able to do any of that until the internet connection on the computer that I play FS on is repaired, but thanks for the help, guys.
If that doesn't work check your entire FS2 directory structure for any filename longe then 31 characters including the .ext. Start with data\missions and data\players.
If I find one longer that 31 characters, then what?

I'd guess in your case it is really only possible if your pilot files have really long names.
