Freespace 2 vanilla campaign runs finely, but custom campaign does not run as well, with Silent Threat Reborn giving around 94 errors at startup.
Oh and off a fresh install from the Freespace Open Installer.

:wtf: You're sure everything is exactly as it was after installation? You didn't touch anything? Ngh...
Open the mod.ini file in your \FreeSpace2\fsport-str\ folder. Find the part that says
secondarylist = fsport,mediavps_3621;
and replace it with
secondarylist = fsport,mediavps_3612;
You will notice that "mediavps_3612" corresponds with the name of the folder where the 3.6.12 MediaVPs should be.

FSPort has been updated to be mediavps 3.6.12 compatible, but STR has not. So change that "mediavps_3612" to "mediavps".

I changed the 'mediavps_3612' to just 'mediavps'. Now the error count dropped down to sixty eight.

Ideally there should be 0 errors. Could you provide a new log with your current setup? I'd guess there's something wonky with your 3.6.10 MediaVPs.

Ah, you don't even have the 3.6.10 MediaVPs. In that case, there are two options:
1. Do not even try to use the MediaVPs with ST:R. This can be achieved by renaming the ST:R "mod.ini" to "mod.ini.with-mediavps", and the "mod.ini.without-mediavps" into "mod.ini". Alternatively, you can just open the mod.ini with any text editor, such as Notepad, and change the secondarylist line to
secondarylist = fsport;
2. Get the 3.6.10 MediaVPs. They can be installed according to the instructions in the release thread (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=65038.0). Ignore the parts that talk about installing FSO 3.6.10. The 3.6.10 MediaVPs should work with FSO 3.6.12.

Final question: Do I have to use the executables that were released around the same time as the 3.6.12 mediavps? Or can I stick with the latest inferno builds?

Uh, it is recommended to use the latest official release, which would be 3.6.12 Final. That is, you should use an exe with the file name beginning with "fs2_open_3_6_12r_INF". You can use nightly builds if you want to and know what you're doing.

I've just posted an identical reply in another, similar thread. :)
You're still using 3.6.12 FSPort, which is not compatible with 3.6.10 VPs.
You have to download an old version of FSPort.

Well, I played Silent Threat: Reborn v1.1 + FSPort v3.2 + FSPort MediaVPs v3.2 + MediaVPs 3.6.12 (updated) and
didn't get a single error or bug scratch this, I actually remember 2 random crashes: one in the "The Wait" mission and the other in the "Last Stand".

Aye, in the other thread mentioned, I linked to the 3.6.12 MediaVPs and everything seems fine now ... I haven't reached those missions so I can't confirm if those bugs are present for me. But thanks for the heads up. Cheers!
