awright who's taken up this recent darling of the Internet
for those who are not aware it is a 6v6 game in which each player assumes the role of an awesome capital ship and charges into a raging space battle where hundreds of tiny fighters are shooting at each other
i'm just gonna go ahead and vomit a little of my experience here
It's fun. I think it may even have enough depth to hold interest past a couple days. Even if not, those couple days have been pretty awesome so far.
If you're getting into it I think the first thing to realize is that to win you have to farm fighters. You HAVE to. It is the key to victory! Fighting the other team is a meaningless waste unless it either gets you a kill or secures a prime farm patch (generally right in front of the enemy base ship, and you won't be able to hold it for long unless it's the endgame.) As an addendum I would suggest never launching your fighters and never going for an intie build on the Carrier because you're just going to be feeding them kills. Fighters are lolsux, except in certain situations against idiots.
In order to maximize your ability to constantly accrue points, start the game with 2x speed and 4x laser, then after you've got your build going, continue to pump both lasers and range. Range is key for good farming as it'll let you aggro fighters from farther away.
The second thing to realize is that speed is life. Inevitably at some point you're going to get into a stern chase, and unless you're close to base the only way to survive is to pull away OR to have a teammate block for you. Ships can physically block fire, so if you've got a buddy in trouble get in between him and his attackers. On that note, even if you have speed upgrades, never over commit; unless you're a cloak build getting caught behind enemy lines is usually pretty bad. Never stop moving! Never go stationary. It takes too long for those big clunkers to build up momentum. Learn to turn in such a way that you don't lose any speed, and when you're comfortable learn to high-energy-turn by clicking at the right clock positions around your ship.
The third rule is to never go it alone. Stick with the pack. Never get so deep into the enemy formation that they all primary you, at least not without a safe escape plan. If you see a buddy in trouble and you're not in a fight, warp to him (always buy the warp equipment as part of your starting gear.) The awesome turning fights that make up the best part of the game will usually happen when the two packs collide; everyone turns off into broadside passes until someone (usually) overextends and then has to turn tail and run. Then it's usually a stern chase back to base with his teammates trying to run interference as everyone else plasma batteries the **** out of the victim.

I will break my leet post number in order to say: This sounds a whooooole lot like League of Legends in space, and with one more person per side.
If you've never played League of Legends, it's almost the same thing, but on the ground with magic and swords and ****. Killing minions is life, running away if you have even approaching an even chance of victory is something everyone but idiots do. Biggest difference (that I know of, still haven't played this, since a link is curiously absent from the OP) is that the player has the choice of a wiiiiiide selection of characters to play when he/she so feels like it with different bonuses and abilities.
EDIT: And now I see that it's a SCII mod. Meh.

I actually did not, since I've never played DotA, and came across LoL by a friend's recommendation. :P
Now, can has help finding link? I can't see it anywhere.

Yes, LoL, Demigod, HoN, those are all just descendants of DotA, which was a Warcraft 3 map, they are all just variants on DotA gameplay, all maps that are 'you control one hero and there are lots of constantly spawning NPCs', those are DotA clones
they are often fun but this one is more noob-friendly and in space

SC2 map? Means I have to have SC2....Pass.

I personally really like picking the battlecruiser and investing a lot of minerals into armor upgrades
The battlecruiser will become INCREDIBLY durable really fast, combined it with the armor regeneration upgrade. etc
Other good tanks are carriers with shield upgrades and that shield regeneration skill. Leviathan can regenerate but it doesn't really benefit from armor upgrades as much.

Spoon: so I am depressed now because I realized this game includes stat tracking :(
A bunch of clan guys got really irritated at me last night for not playing the way they wanted and told me to do exactly what they desired or I would be SORRY and I saw that one of them had a perfect record of many games soooo
I waited until a key moment where I had to swoop in and block fire for them and most of them had shields down and then I fired a nuclear missile at them
Anyway I tried your shield tank build but I died horribly. So far I have been running carrier with a 4xlaser2xspeed+warp start, then getting speed, plasma battery, plasma battery cycle, some reactor upgrades, then range and laser, then missile and laser. Seems to work okay. Pick up shield boost late.

Oh dear, that's pretty much what turned me off Dota so fast. SRZ BZN people :/
I haven't actually tried the carrier shield build, just saw a youtube vid of someone doing it.
Pro tip if you are going the battlecruiser, get the point defense drone! It'll ensure victory!
I once tried the void ray and died after my first jump :p
Not to sure what to think of that ship yet.

Kolgena: yes, and each ship has a few unique abilities. Like the siege mode, nuke, point defense drone, shield matrix etc.

I don't have SC2, but I do think it would be quite neat if they had other fighter types that would launch as well. For instance, Wraiths would be hard to detect under certain circumstances, Mutalisks would be weak but would launch in huge swarms, Valkayries would be quite durable and deliver a lot of firepower but would be very few and far between - the possible balances and uses for the old types is quite interesting in concept to me.

You can already launch Wraiths and Mutalisks (but they might all share the same stats), Valkyries were actually more of anti-mutalisk units than anything with serious firepower. But yeah, it'd be cool to have more nuance, I expect they're working on that.

On the subject of fighters. The leviathan can launch corrupters as well. Which are quite a bit more durable than mutalisks
