Hello everyone. I Was able to install freespace 2 and got the game up and running. then used tureys java installer for installing fs2_open 3.6.12 and downloaded soulstorms launcher. Under 3.6.12 I kept getting a "flag not found" error and was able to find some old threads on this site which detailed the problem a bit more. The common solution was to revert back to 3.6.10. which I did. I also made sure do download the 3.6.10 mediavps. The first bit of the campagin runs great. the tutorial is fine and the first 3 missions also work great but when I get to the mission where I am transfered to the 103rd ravens The level wont load and crashes my comp.
anyways any info on how to fix it would be great, thanks

Yeah, as a first step you'll probably want to go back to 3.6.12 and the 3.6.12 MVPs. I was suuuure I had a way to fix this problem...
(3.6.10 is truly awful and I would wish it on no one. :( )
Could you post the exact text of the error, and a screenshot of your FS2 directory?
-
where would I find the error text? Once I reach this spot in the game everything crashes so it would be hard to take a screen shot of it. If there is a fix for 3.6.12 to stop the "flag not found" error that would be great too.
edit: oh I am an idiot i thought you meant a screen shot of my screen crashing lol, Here is my freespace directory

please ignore the blue scroll bar between sync and tango1

Right. Do you still get the 'flag not found' error when you launch the 3.6.12 exe from in this folder? Have you tried using WXLauncher?
-
does it need to be .exe? when i used tureys java app I only downloaded the mac executable and not the .exe ones. When I was using the mac executable I had it placed in my directory and got the flag not found error. I haven't tried wxlauncher because when I looked at the thread it said it had only been tested on 10.6.4 and I run 10.4.11 but I can download it and give it a shot

Battuta rapes terms. He's referring to the Mac executables.
-
Yes I am, sorry.
I'm hoping WXLauncher will clear up the stupid flag issue.
-
I was getting all the things nessecary to run the wxlauncher but the version of xcode needed only runs on snow leopard and I am still running tiger so that seems to be a no go for now. I will play around with the settings some more and see if i can find something
Ok wow it turned out I needed to put the media bps in a folder called mediator I feel really dump now anywhas everythin is working again thanks for your help though guys
-
Wait what. The 3.6.12 MVPs should be in a folder called 'mediavps_3612' or stuff like Blue Planet won't work right. :blah:
-
I put the 3.6.10 mediator in a folder called mediator in my freespace directory and everything is loading fine now. I still haven't gotten 3.6.12 to work though
-
This may be on windows, but it hopefully will get the idea across:

Alright I found out what the issue was. Apparently the executable file when you go to >fs2_open-inferno 3.6.12>show package contents>contens>mac os>Fs2_open was a text file rather then a unix executablem, I am really not sure how that happened. I redownloaded the 3.6.13 package from this forum and it had a unix executable in it so the problem has gone away. Thanks again for all you help guys
I guess my last question would be about the launcher. I have been playing the game for some time now and am about half way through the campaign. On soulstorms launcher you are able to set the ambient levels and the clipping distance and other things. does anyone have any good baselines that they put in there? Because I have been leaving it blank and the game has been working fine

media bps in a folder called mediator... 3.6.10 mediator... folder called mediator
Just to be on the safe side. MediaVPs. And they go to a folder called "mediavps" (or the 3.6.12 MediaVPs go into "mediavps_3612"). There are no mediators (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mediator) involved with FSO.

oh lol I was typing that on my iphone, stupid auto correct. yes i know mediavps the most common mistake i make is calling them media VIPs

iPhone? Ok, that explains it. I was just being on the safe side.

Actually I also found that my 3.6.12 "unix executable" was in fact a text file. I think the file source that automated installer uses must be corrupted. I downloaded the OSX files manually and they were alright. So if there is a moderator/admin reading this and you know how to fix the files the automated installer gets I would recommend doing so for your OS X players. :)
However, unfortunately this did not fix the problem. I'm still getting the same flag error that was reported in the OP using Soulstorm's launcher despite the fix. As such I'm having difficulty playing any of the mods. Freespace 2 vanilla retail seems to be working fine. Even manually trying to use the -mod command in the config file doesn't seem to be doing anything (though I may be typing things in wrong there).
For the graphics launcher I put in the recommended settings found in the mediavps readme and online here: http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Mac_Installation_Guide (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Mac_Installation_Guide). Scroll near the bottom. Though since the mods don't seem to be doing anything I'm not sure this is either. :(
So ... Help please! Thanks.
Nevermind! For some reason even though I reinstalled the Soulstorms launcher and thought I had wiped its info it was still trying to find the .app version with the text file at its core instead of the unix executable. So I think it is working now!
However, again you still may want to fix the OS X binary files the automated installer is trying to use. However, the manual OS X binaries seems to work fine.
