Title: FreeSpace Universe - Browsergame
Post by: Blackace on January 11, 2011, 06:08:40 am
Hey guys I'm the new one... xD

I started to make a Browsergame conversion of FreeSpace some days ago...

Finished the layout and user system so far.

Here 2 screenshots:

http://www.galaxy-tales.eu/screenshots/fsconversion.jpg

http://www.galaxy-tales.eu/screenshots/fssettings.png

You will play the GTVA (not sure to make shivans or ancients playable too...) and have a planet where you can harvest raw materials which you need to research and build new ships. these you can use to fight against other players. the game is in a early version and concept still under development. As soon as i got more info's for you I'll post them.

Will there be an English version?

Yeah, but i hope someone could help me to translate everything to English, because mine isn't that good...

But the development will be in German, maybe i find someone who could help me fast to translate it so that there will be an English beta. :)

I'm currently lerne learning Deutsch German, so I might be able to help in a few Monaten months. :)

A question though: can this project run into copyright violation issues?

I'm thinking about that too... should it be enough if i put a disclaimer on the page that ship names weapons and so on is copyrighted by volition and interplay?

I'll help with translation.  Even if I can't get everything, I can make sure everything sounds good to native English ears.

EDIT:

I'm currently lerne learning Deutsch German, so I might be able to help in a few Monaten months. :)

A question though: can this project run into copyright violation issues?

Maybe you can PM a list of things to translate to us; between the two of us students we should be able to pull it off. :D

So the main website is done so far...

http://fsc.galaxy-tales.eu/

please check for missspelling and take  a look at the disclaimer, should that be enough?
Title: Re: FreeSpace conversion - Browsergame
Post by: ktistai228 on January 12, 2011, 05:06:38 am
looking good, but there are a couple of problems. Interplay has part of the rights for the game, so you might want to give 'em some credit too...
Secondly you only give credit for FS2, are you sure it shouldn't be for the whole FS saga?
Title: Re: FreeSpace conversion - Browsergame
Post by: Blackace on January 12, 2011, 05:13:45 am
fixed...

interplay has credits too, or what do you mean? 2ND row...

So this is a bit like mafiawars or such browsergames? I buy 50 Apollo's and 5 Fenris today and I attack, let's say Matth's 80 SF Scorpions?

Just an FYI, copyright attribution is not a defense against infringement lawsuits. If Interplay decide to sue you, they won't give a damn who you gave credit to, all they care about (and the courts will care about) is that you're distributing this and they didn't say you could.

Oh god, are those... TIMERS? O_O Please tell me this isn't like travian (30/8 or 24/7 if you don't care about minor setbacks) Otherwise very good job.
Title: Re: FreeSpace conversion - Browsergame
Post by: Blackace on May 11, 2011, 02:40:22 pm
uhm... do you mean its turn-based... ?

no it isn't, otherwise what do you mean? :D
Title: Re: FreeSpace conversion - Browsergame
Post by: Nohiki on May 11, 2011, 02:47:30 pm
I mean that you have to sit there for loong amounts of times like you do on travian :P *poopsockers*

There are three types:
turns - fastest because you play all at once, very bad attack options (generals online)
timers - You set operation to do and countdown timer runs till it's done (travian)
re-counts:
- daily - Good for people who don't want to spend all day on the game since all the battles, mining, building ETC takes tim in a single hour (stargate webgame)
- <daily - IMHO absolutely the best option, for example once in two hours.

Of course i dunno how does your game work, but believe me, a lot of people find timers far beyond their time possibilities (unless they play at work :P )
Does it support custom skins? That would be very cool :)

Minor hint: Deuterium really ain't MINED. Unless you have a bigass machinery that can withstand pressure at jupiter's core where metal hydrogen can be found :P
Title: Re: FreeSpace conversion - Browsergame
Post by: Blackace on May 11, 2011, 02:56:09 pm
ok then is is like travian at the moment, but dont forget its a beta maybe i'll change later...

and yeah it will support custom skins, the skin system is done so far, but user made skins will not be allowed in the first open beta

If that's PHP i can assist if you want :) I have good experience with the two hour recounts from czech Foundation and Empire game (sry guys, no english version, YET, but we're woking on it ;) ) - It allows for very realistic wars with battles.

What exactly is gameplay like for this? Are there any beta gameplay shots we can see? I suppose I understand the gist of the project, but I don't really understand the nature of the project, if you understand what I mean.
