It appears that the apparently 'safe' tool that people were downloading wasn't even remotely safe....

So apparently 7 people have been arrested for this out of probably about 15000, so there is a 0.0466% chance of getting caught, that is fairly well within the vicinity of 0 IMHO, in fact it almost makes me confident enough to join in next time something like this happens.

call me when 1000 people are arrested.

Still funny how law enforcement and governments are focusing more on the cyberattacks than they are against the crimes Wikileaks exposed...

Hehe, that Low Orbit Ion Cannon is the same thing they used to attack Hal Turner, and the American government failed to do anything about those attacks.

Also: It's interesting how they ignore the attacks on wikileaks, and focus on anonymous' efforts specifically. One has to wonder whether they're even trying to go after those who are DDOSing wikileaks. On second thought, they're likely indifferent or even appreciate such attacks and hence don't investigate them.

Chances are it's easier to make the arrests in the UK than the US, and besides, most people probably went through a proxy. I'm not really expressing a pro- or con opinion regarding the actual DDOS attacks in either direction, I think it's all rather silly in that respect.

As for why only a few people have been arrested so far, it's impossible to say without more information.

The article mentions "LOIC". That's an abbreviation for "Low Orbit Ion Cannon", and it's a DDOS tool that has been used in attacks by 4chan, /b/, and so on.

Here I thought we had to worry about NOD infiltrations of GDI Space Command.

What makes you think it isn't US Cyber Command doing the anti-WL DDoSing?

Because they're typically busy with the Chinese.

I assume that the Americans are not stupid enough to do that. My theory is that it's not actually governments attacking wikileaks, but just hacker groups wanting fame/bragging rights.

Given how the US is:
A) trying to prosecute Assange
and
B) the most likely to be embarrassed by Wikileaks' information

I wouldn't be surprised one bit if it was some element of the US Government that was taking part in this.
