... Why the bleep do they go and post on GenDisc?
-
For the lulz?
-
What else are you supposed to do after you come home from a long night out?
-
FWIW, I went on IRC last night, not Gen Disc. :p

Drink lots and lots of water.
-
I daresay that the water consumption and gendisc posting can be done simultaneously, can it not? ;)
Also, heard from someone that drinking bucket loads of water after you've had a fair bit just dilutes the alcohol and keeps it in your system for longer, does anyone know how true/false the statement is?
-
Maybe I should try it sometime... :drevil:

Seeing as alcohol is removed from the blood at a constant rate whatever concentration it is, I wouldn't put too much scope on it :P

It's not the point - the idea is to prevent dehydration, which is what causes the worst of the hangover. And it definitely works - I've tested it many times myself :)
-
Okay, I shall add 'drink all the bottled water in my home' to my post-late night cycle. :P
-
If you're not coherent enough to use the toilet that might turn out badly
-
We don't see it so who cares?

The enzymes that break down alcohol use up a lot of water in the process. Since passing out and sleeping for a long time is pretty much the usual procedure after getting drunk, you're not in a position to drink more water and as a result you wake up seriously dehydrated. As BW said, that's mostly the effects you feel in bad hangovers. Drinking enough water to prevent this does work - I've tested it myself many times.
I actually read up on that to find out exactly how it works and stumbled upon a fun semi related fact; if you drink antifreeze by accident, it can either be fatal or cause serious brain damage; what happens is the enzymes that break down alcohol try and break down antifreeze, and create oxalic acid as a byproduct - which tends to crystallize. These pieces can physically damage your brain.
The fun part is the treatment; drink alcohol. Lots and lots of it. With alcohol in your system the enzymes that would otherwise go after the antifreeze will go after alcohol instead, allowing time for the antifreeze to get filtered out of the body without being broken down into oxalic acid. I always liked the idea of alcohol as a cure.. though I still don't think I'm going to test it. One of those "don't do this at home" things I guess :P

Drink water, make brownies, wake up next to a 3 with a hangover. . .
Make out with best friend.
Make out with best friend's mom.
Make out with best friend's dad!
Get hit by truck.
Go on an adventure!
Pass out with your hand in a toilet.
Join a cult.
Take up sudoku.
Dive into an empty pool.
(Only some of those are personal experience.)

I'm guessing number 4 and the last one are personal anecdotes?

Ouch, that burns. . .
Honestly. I've never made out with my best friends mom or dad, dove in an empty pool, and I've not hooked up with a stranger and regretted it. The rest are all true.

So don't drink anti freeze and for a night of serious drinking wear a camelbak full of water :P

But Anti-Freeze is pure awesome! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TcnCYes85A)

(I know, I shouldn't use the sane response. :()
