Title: Dead Space 2
Post by: starbug on January 31, 2011, 02:48:30 pm
So has anyone played this yet? i have just finished it and WOW what a rush! This is what Doom 3 and Fear 2 should of been! I have to say its rare that you get a sequel that surpasses the original and this one does, its truly an EPIC game, the modern Silent Hill and the controls for the PC are brillant you don't need a Xbox controller to play it! The Singleplayer game is outstanding,  very good and sad in parts but complicated at the same time and you really need to watch Dead Space aftermath before playing Dead Space 2 to understand fully whats going on.

The only let down for me is multiplayer, its a bit blah.

So overall 9.5/10

First game wasn't much in my estimation, though perhaps dealing with more ****ty console ports makes me want to die inside.

Convince me not to pass on this one, especially considering how much I hated the first, even though I really wanted to like it..

Ok, This one has been designed for the PC as well as consoles. Control wise its almost the same as the mass effect series.

Other reasons you should play it are,

- Very engrossing and really good storyline and is screwed up (in a good way) like the silent hill series  :)
- Isaac talks and it ain't crap!
- Intro makes you jump !
- Voice acting is really good
- Graphics are really good and crisp
- its fun
- Its not a console port!
- Soundtrack is very good
- Lots of dismemberment!
- PC controls are brillant
- Official Mums hate this game! so it must be good(LOL), youtube the trailer Mums hate Deadspace 2

If they do a multi reset again, probably so.

I take it the horrible mouse lag and acceleration that was in Dead Space 1 is gone now?

Spoiler:
I'll probably still get the game, if only to play with the bangbangbangpewpewpewbangbangpewbangpewpew finger

Am I the only one that found the first Dead Space to be boring and predictable?

I loved the first half. Then it got a little lame when I realized that Isaac is pretty well off after some upgrading and that necromorphs were all bark no bite. Then it got annoying when the twitchers showed up, because of mouse lag.

Well the lack of response on the first version made me fall in love with the game, I was so frustrated when attacked by several enemies at the same time, damn hard and got killed a lot...
Also the game made me crap my pants more times that I can remember, it's a great game with a great environment, from the vids I've seen this version keeps on the right track in regards of the dark environment and OMFGWWT? moments.

I played it a bit at an associates house. Nothing to write home about, uses Quake 4 / Doom 3 "I can't get to the other side of the glass" in game cut scenes for the gory bits. Is mostly suspense (boredom) with brief sprints of fighting in which either you or they end up dead.

Recommended as a scary game only when tripping mushrooms.

The first dead space was such a disappointment on PC that I am extremely wary of getting this. :(

PC version doesn't have the New Game + Elite suits and the Hand Cannon yet. They say they're going to patch it but who knows when...

V-Sync, turn it off.

Problem solved.

Oh, it unlocks fine, just good luck finding the advanced suit schematics (Protip: In the PC version they don't appear, hence it being bugged)

Mouse Lag has been fixed.  They v-sync issues have not - it's still "Enable in game, 30FPS.  Disable in game, enable in control panel for nVidia.  Install rivatuner if Ati and WinXP.   Unfixable without disabling UAC in Win7 with Ati"

Ive been playing through ds1 and you wait till I reach level 10 to tell me theres a fix for the mouse lag - you swine :D

ps: the game cheated on me
I entered a room with a load of dead bodies and I thought to myself I bet soon one of those creatures will appear that re-animate dead bodies and i will end up having to fight them, so using telekinesis I removed them all and dumped them onto the train tracks. then when I entered the room later the creature appeared in the room and the game had put all the bodies back

Have to say i haven't had any V-sync problems at all with the game. I am a bit peeved no though, as i have been told PC gamers will not get DLC, they will get the extra suits and weapons on the new game + once the patch is out as they are ment to work but its a bug thats caused it not to. Game Developers keep saying that they need to turn there attention to PC games and yet they keep doing this not allowing DLC for PC only consoles. That Sucks if its true, cos PC gaming is more alive than ever!

I never remove the bodies, i stomp their legs off instead.  Then, when i come back, the room is full of legless zombies.  It's actually pretty funny.

The new xpac is the only place to hop on. DoWII/Chaos Rising used GFWL, and it was awful. Connection problems out the ass, voice chat was irredeemably broken, the matchmaking wasn't great. New one uses steam and should address all those problems. As well, since it'll be using steam, it is not backward compatible, which means the only reason to buy the old ones is if you want the singleplayer campaigns. Which...okay, CR is worthwhile, DoWII is merely okay.

Man, ammo in this game is a b*tch on Zealot :( I recently got past a small locked room where 5 necromorphs spawn that I entered with only 3 shots of PC. I died a lot in that room. I have learned that kinesis spam is your friend.

But yeah, I far prefer this game to the first one, so far, but I hear there are issues with false difficulty on Zealot in the later chapters.

what i dont get about the DS2 DLC: all the suits and weapons, even the ones from that prequel the pc-gamers will never get ("extraction" or something like that), are already shipped with the game. theres no real "DLC", a simple hex-edit of a save game unlocks every suit and weapon possible. the ones from the DLCs, the ones you can get if you have a DS1 savegame on your HD and the ones you can get by playing through "extraction" (or whatever it is called).
granted, you will not find the schematics for that suits and weapons (anyone really believes there will be a patch for the elite suits bug? i dont), but you can buy them at the stores.

that hacked savegame is exactly as big as the normal savegames are, so theres no way new models or skins are embedded in it somehow.

and thats what i dont get. if you buy one of those "DLCs", you simply buy a code that unlocks those things on your machine. whats so hard to make it work for PCs? dont they wanna have the extra money?

They want to emphasise the console versions as having access to more content, maybe? Dunno. That is weird.

That sucks if the console's are going to have more content, i remember EA promising that PC players would get the same content as console players. This is what i don't get, why ignore pc players when if you look at the figures (including digital purchase) PC gaming is very much alive! Come on Visceral, give us the content to an awesome game!

HAHAHAHAHAHa i have found a saved game that allows PC players to unlock the DLC content. It would appear that all the DLC was included in the PC version but was locked and this saved game unlocks the content and it works!!!!!! HAHA take that EA

Link removed before EA shuts it down

Edit I am not sure if its ok to post this link, if not i apologise and admins remove the link if i have broken any rules. link removed

dont know if its a good idea to post that link. after all it provides free access to content you should pay for.
that savegame was available through a post in the official EA forum for several days (says something about their moderators, doesnt it?) which was deleted, too.

maybe you should discuss such links in personal messages?

also: have a look at reply #24.

Like CooperHawkes said, the issue is PC players can't pay for it. The saved game is the only way to unlock it.

broad hints, broad hints.

Quote from: CooperHawkes
-all the suits and weapons are already shipped with the game
-a simple hex-edit unlocks
-you will not find the schematics  but you can buy them at the stores
-exactly as big as the normal savegames

my knowledge about that savefile should tell you something about my relation to it.

If you add:
Quote from: CooperHawkes
discuss such links in personal messages
not a good idea to post that link

maybe you'll get the idea what i tried to say without using the actual words.

dont know if its a good idea to post that link. after all it provides free access to content you should pay for.

Like CooperHawkes said, the issue is PC players can't pay for it. The saved game is the only way to unlock it.
A quote of mine gets corrected by what i said. Anyway:
You said it, that content isnt meant to be accessed on PC. All the other platforms have to pay to access it. It may be a bit of a gray area because savegame editing isnt forbidden, but still: you are unlocking content others have to pay for. No matter what we think about not making it accessable on PC, i bet EA doesn't like the sharing of that savegame one bit:
a post in the official EA forum which was deleted

Believe me, im lauging my ass off because of EAs stupidity. If you dont want some specific content to be unlocked: remove it from the game! Otherwise its just a matter of time till someone hacks it.
Still, if you dont provide links like that publicly, but talk about them in personal messages, theres no way for EA to harm this forum. I dont believe any EA employee watches this forum, but its better to be on the safe side.

**** happens :).

to get back on topic: i liked the game. i had to turn off the music, because most of the time it gave away too much (like there are still enemies around somewhere, or "uhoh, music is getting hectic, something is about to happen"), but overall i enjoyed it. a bit more zero-g-combat would have been nice.
