Well, I think those 30 ships are the top 30 best representing FS. Take your pick: I personally would chose the Orion.
-
It doesn't matter which ones you think belong up there, likely someone else has a ship they would vote for but isn't up there, like the Apollo or Medusa.
-
I added the Perseus because I didn't see it, if it is I am dumb
-
Perseus
-
I would say the Orion. That was what popped into my head first.
-
Yeah, there's a few that could work, but Orion.
-
Herc 1 for me, but maybe thats just fond memories of FS1, i dunno
2nd is Orion, then Apollo
-
What in the hell? Where's the Apollo? That most iconic of Terran fighters?
-
Herc 1, it was like getting your first car ;)
-
WHERE IS MARA?
-
And may i ask where is the Volition Bravos? :hopping:
Seriously, the Orion.
-
We should just put every single retail ship on the list.
-
Which FS?
If we had to do a universal symbol of FS much like the Mad Cat is used for BattleTech, my vote is on the Ulysses for FS1. I am unsure for FS2.
-
Definetly the Orion. On both games.
-
In order of preference
Orion - I am still emotionally scarred from the first time watching the Galatea go down
Fenris - I have spent way to much time protecting the Orff
Apollo - The first fighter you get and the FS intro is brilliant
Colossus - the signature ship of the second game
-
I heretically pick the Collossus.
Mainly because of the epic cutscene. The contrast between the hubris displayed in that cutscene and actual reality is mind-boggingly entertaining. "... and for generations to come" ahahah!
-

Seconded. Even though the Uly isn't the first ship for FS1 that you are given, it's still a fairly well recognizable and distinctive to FS Universe ship that about any other.
The Loki would probably be tied with the Hercules as a good Runner-up/Second Place.
-

It would be hubris if they actually knew better. At that point in the game, they don't. :P
-
I reckon that rather than individual ships being representative of the game, there were scenes or images that were. The art on the OEM version of the game's disc fits that category. But Orion, for me.
-
Maybe I should add all ships. Every single ship, even the NavBuoy, Asteroid, Knossos, or Volition Bravos.
-
Herc I for the overall FS. No contest.
and the Deimos for FS2
-
It's a toss up between the Apollo and the Herc 1. I voted Apollo because I'm nostalgic.
-
I voted Typhon. Why? Because it's an immediately recognizably FreeSpace ship, not to mention it being all over the FS1 box art.
-
Definitely orion. Don't ask me why, but the Orion is the first thing i remember when i hear or read "FreeSpace"
-
Ankh. It looks like the GTVA logo.
-
Apollo, Orion, and Sathanas, together.
-
For me it´s the Orion, the Herc I for both FS and Sathanas in FS II
Peter
-
Voted Orion. Herc I comes in second.
-
For me, nostaliga wise its the horus. Because It's the only ship I recall seeing in game magazines back in the day.
But I voted the navbouy. because I can
-
Deimos.
-
Orion and Ulysses.
-
Voted Lucifer. It beat out the Herc 1 and Orion by merit of not being able to be confused for a box from far away.
EDIT: Plus, it was the central focus of the first game from the opening cutscene to the final mission, and the fear of the Lucifer specifically and the Shivans it represented was the driving force behind Terran and Vasudan science and culture up until the discovery of the Knossos.
-
Depends how far. LODs happen.
-
I'm voting Lucifer - IMHO it's a standoff with the Orion, but I suspect the Orion is getting plenty of votes already.
No, the Lucifer is this really fearsome, unstoppable ship; it captures the essence of trying to battle the Shivans rather well.
-
For me its the Herc II due to its familiarity (flight hours).

One of the best things about The Great Hunt was looking back just before you reached the Sol node and seeing the Bastion looking like a small blue square. :p
-
Apollo.
-
I find the Orion captures the series because let's face it, the series is about Humanities triumph in the face of juggernaut. That despite the power of the Shivans, we survived.
The Orion is a pure projection of Terran power and ingenuity. It showed our intelligence, we did it on our own, without the collaboration of the Vasudans like the Deimos or the Hecate. And even when our pride is struck down (The Galatea) it was another Orion that picked up the torch and carried on the fight, driving the victory home, And it was that SAME orion ship, the Bastion, that sealed Epsilon Pegasi off and secured our victory the second time around. Or survival at least.
The Orion was there every step of the way, protecting humanity and blowing shivans out of the sky.
-
Orion.

FS1 was about this, FS2 was about subverting it.
-
Snuffie, if he was an option.
ut seriously, Orion. No question, IMO.
-
The Orion.
It's shape and silhouette evoke FS. None of the other ships listed do this.
-
Orion for FS1, deimos for FS2.
For fighters, Herc I, Perseus respectively.
-
Well, I would have to decide among the following
Apollo: It's the starter ship
Orion: A galactic (rofl) Terran symbol of awesome.
Perseus: It's the widely accepted symbol of FS2.
Lucifer: The ***** that started it all.
Iceni: Who doesn't love Bosch, that magnificent bastard?
Deimos: Most used ship in FS2.
Well, I think it should be a cap ship, and the Hecate is balls, plus the Orion is a universal Terran symbol. Not only did it survive the Lucy, but it's design was so simple yet grand that it was able to receive a massive refit that enabled it's use as a fully operational warship design post Great War.
So yeah, Orion, hands down.
-
The Orion , its participated in important events, in fs1 and fs2
-
Orion IS Freespace.
-
That poll has a limit time , or what?
-
It has to be a fighter for me.
-
If a fighter, then Hercules or Perseus.
