So I'm thinking about organizing a HLP gamenight (kinda like the multi-nights for FS but for other games). But instead of simply picking a game and forcing it upon others. I've decided to let you guys chime in with your suggestion for what we are going to play on our first official HLP Gamenight!
-
A few of us have tried one or two TF2 outings, to mixed success. I'd definitely be up for another one. Alien Swarm, too, since I still haven't played that yet...I need to earn the TF2 hat. :p
-
Descent 1/2/3, TF2, Brawl, Left For Dead 1/2, to name a few that could be fun to play. :)
-
Quake 3 Arena.
-
checkers
-
You better mean Chinese Checkers. D:
-
Skulltag/Doom (http://www.skulltag.com/)
I think it would be interesting to play CTF/FFA with some of you.
Aside from that, considering I like to stick to cheap/free options, maybe RTCW: ET?
You people and all your new-fangled vidya.
-
Solar Realms Elite
-
TF2 and Alien Swarm are candidates.
TF2 more, because moar players at once.
Also, HL2:Deatmatch is something i'd be tempted to try :p
-
Descent 1/2/3
It would be nice to get this going again. I've been playing D2X-XL quite a bit lately.

minecraft

minecraft
This, TF2, Alien Swarm and Bad Company 2 get my votes
-
Alien Swarm. We used to run HLP groups through that.
-
pong
-
How about monopoly?
-
Also, HL2:Deatmatch is something i'd be tempted to try :p
HL2 Deathmatch is underrated and quite awesome.
-
I'd also note Alien Swarm is free, so it's convenient for anyone with Steam. :P
-
I can't believe BFBC2 hasn't been mentioned yet.
-
Quake 3 Arena.
Replace quake 3 with openarena (http://www.openarena.ws/smfnews.php), and you'll be good.
I don't have much to suggest aside from oldies.
quake 3/openarena
unreal tournament 2003-2004
starcraft 1
freespace
counterstrike
-
Anyone wanna play Stratego? I have Stratego...
-
AoK / AoM / Open transport Tycoon Deluxe (http://www.openttd.org/en/)? :nervous:
-
Re-Volt! ;)
-
+1 for TF2 and meinkraft
-
Tachyon - Cause too few people have played it from here.
BFBC2, AlienSwarm, Dogfighter.
-
I can't believe BFBC2 hasn't been mentioned yet.
*fangasm*
BFBC2, Counter-Strike, FSO (obviously), and Alien Swarm.
-
The only reason I didn't say multi was because he explicitly said other games :<
-
bfbc2
-
Open transport Tycoon Deluxe (http://www.openttd.org/en/)? :nervous:
I haven't played that in months; I must do so again. :)

Descent 1/2/3
It would be nice to get this going again. I've been playing D2X-XL quite a bit lately.
newer versions dont seem to like my system. like some stuff works in 32 bit builds and not in 64 bit builds and vise versa. of course i havent updated it several months. and probably need to clean up the directory.
i would also say starcraft 2 (possible the star battle mod)
and the mechwarrior living ledgends mod for crysis
-
I think I've got Unreal 3, that's about it from this end. I also have the Descent series, but I've never played 'em, so there's no way I'd embarass myself by MPing on them :p

Quake 3 Arena.

Openarena just doesn't feel the same :(
-
I find it fits the bill for quake 3 and team arena fantastically great. I just wish they included some music for the levels. It is the same game play. They do a pretty good job at replicating the quake 3 atmosphere and theme. But yeah, it does have a different look and feel to it still. I sure do love it a hell of a lot (for you i guess it would take some getting used too). It's a top notch game, and for having bug fixes that quake 3 itself doesn't have. The future of quake 3 is an upgraded and still being developed ripoff. I find it great to whip out at lans parties.
It really sucks if someone doesn't have a copy of the game everyone's playing at the lan party. Why pirate? A free alternative that can be shared with and actually include everybody works. Reminds me of people wanting to play counterstrike source. Only 3 people had steam accounts with counterstrike (one person even said that they'd be back with a brand new copy just to play once...cringe, setup steam too). I whipped out urban terror and everyone was happy (although urban terror is not exactly the same as counter strike, it is for all intents and purposes close enough) and pleasantly surprised. I don't mean to be in here touting my opensource love and ideals, but free opensource games are great for lan parties. That's why i list off some free games for people at lans parties who wanted to get down and dirty with the classics like UT quake 3, etc.., but ripoffs :)
Nexuiz...great UT ripoff
Operana...great quake3 and team arena ripoff
Urban terror...great counterstrike ripoff
Assaultcube...also a great counterstrike alternative, but faster paced, and more standard fps style, i don't care for it so much, but other people sure liked it
-
I'd add a vote for TF2, Alien Swarm, Starcraft 1 and 2, and also Battlefield 2142, though I doubt enough people actually have that one.
-
I really want to get into 2142. How's the playerbase? When do we get a Steam release?
-
Honestly, I haven't actually played in many months, so I don't know how the base is right now. Last time I was on, there seemed to be a fair number of players, and most of them were pretty decent aside from the rare, standard cheating ****bags.
I've never heard anything about a Steam release.
-
It's got to be IL-2.
-
I'd play that, but I'd probably be quite terrible. :p

That poor, wangless man...
-
Perhaps instead of going on the idea of a single night and one thing... Make it a weekly thing with
different games in rotation... seems as though the game library is sorta diverse.
-
I like that idea. I remember back a few summers ago when we had weekly d2x-xl games. Ah, fun times.
Having a rotation should help get more people involved.
-
Though that does mean some people wont play for weeks. :P
-
Right now they ain't playing at all... what's the difference.
-
Pssh, plenty of us play BFBC2 :P
And Multi.
-
For all practical purposes we've had a bunch of HLP BFBC2 nights already. We should do an even bigger one.
-
I'm down for that. 'twould have to be a Thursday or Friday night around 5PM to 9PM in the States for me to partake, but hey, I still want to see more HLPers play BC2.
-
alien swarm, possibly tf2 (it came with orange box, but i never play it, prefer fortress forever)
and for those up for mods (and by that i mean modules :P), modular combat for hl2:ep2
its an action rpg based on hl2 deathmatch, get exp. for kills and buy upgardes like jet pack, teleport, minions etc.
comes with several custom maps, co-opertative mode (you fight generated monsters from half-life 2), team deathmatch (combine vs rebels vs apature) and deathmatch.
for 40k'ers there is exterminatus
neotokyo (http://www.moddb.com/mods/neotokyo)(ghost in the shell inspired CS-play-alike[or so i've heard]) is fun, if somewhat dead (i have been called a jihadist in this game for my prediliction for dieing just after throwing a grenade...which is VERY deadly)
eternal silence is fs2 meets half-life
to sum it up, in order of preference: neotokyo, alien swarm, eternal silence, modular combat, fortress forever, exterminatus, tf2

if you havent made one already, a HLP steamgroup would help organize and gather people
