Title: Good bad movies
Post by: Mika on February 08, 2011, 03:58:30 pm
Let's dig up some trash again, people. What so bad movies that they are good have you seen lately? If possible, post the trailer too! The telltale sign of this sort of a movie is that when you think you could see it with your friends after a couple of beers and laugh your asses off!

I start, recently heard of these:
Sharktopus (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U87zVkIXNI0) (seriously!!!) You just gotta see this to believe it...
Dinocroc vs. Supergator (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RM0-WLbvaw8&feature=related) This has to be a lot more entertaining than any superhero movie I have seen.
Dinoshark (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWJ70m4GaUM&feature=related) Oh yours god
Mega Piranha (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFhSogGnu4I&feature=related) How do they come up with these ideas? A giant pirahna snapping away a helicopter? Check! Megashark vs. Giant Octopus clip comes to mind...
The Giant Claw (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOj0nXpRqX8) Duuuude!

And of course, the Space Battleship Yamato.

just turn on the syfy channel during the daytime.

Two Three reasons why I can't do that

1) I don't own a TV
2) SyFy is not available here
3) I'm working on the day time

Battlefield Earth
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0R_FR9pD2k (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0R_FR9pD2k)
Saw it on Space on the weekend, and I actually enjoyed it, once I got over cavemen literally learning to operate Harriers within a day (even though they are one of the harder modern jets to fly, I believe the hardest NATO one, even)

The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qivOTbxXRF4)

Stupidest idiotic movie ever. Apart from the cheesy romantic part, it is full of fantastic WTF.

Oh that's an easy one.
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gNJ1z-ulB4)
I mean some of the sets are so bad I still cringe, but I am almost positive that was deliberate.

I saw Dinocroc vs Supergator, and thought that was the worst thing ever, beating The Brain That Wouldn't Die (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYebuwQ8RPw) by a large margin. Then I saw Sharktopus, and that took the crown. Then a friend brought over a movie called Killer Klowns From Outer Space (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHXy8DpF5k0). It was a close race for the first half of the movie, but eventually the klowns won the dubious honor of "worst. movie. ever." (For now at least)

I saw that scene during a preview clip, and I laughed my ass off.  I really need to see that. :D

For my money, the original live-action Street Fighter movie fits right into this category.  Everything from Guile's legendary speech to Raul Julia's fantastic performance as Bison ("But for me...it was Tuesday.") just makes it.

F yes. I saw a compilation of the best action sequences, and now believe that we need more movies like that in the US.

Enthiran easily got to my to-watch list. That trailer is just awesomely stupid. I'm not sure about The Goods, but the Adventures of the Buckaroo Banzai probably made it to my list.

Have you seen McGruber (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZL0ZeDFtmo8) yet?

Machete was fun for 2/3, the last third felt slow, and somehow not so awesome as the start.

And I absolutely recommend Postal if you haven't seen it yet (Back up, I need back up! ). Drink a couple ones before doing that though.

EDIT: McGruber plot is as cliched as it can get, and they knew it when they made the movie! The baddy's name is von ****h...

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Starship Troopers yet
Title: Re: Good bad movies
Post by: Nemesis6 on February 10, 2011, 05:57:35 am
I can't accept you calling Starship Troopers a bad movie. As I see it, the plot, weak as it was, was overshadowed by the action, in a positive way. That is to say, it wasn't really that important that Rico joined the army just to chase a girl and blah blah, it was however important seeing him throw a grenade into a giant bug!

I was about to say this movie also. I thought the star wars fade to different scenes was wierd, and other things in the movie. But like you, i also enjoyed this movie and found it entertaining and great for what it was. It is one of my favorites.

Are deliberately bad movies allowed, too?
If so, you have to see
The lost skeleton of Cadavra (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0307109/)
and
The lost skeleton returns again (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1199494/)

If not, watch them anyway.

And a 1 hour music video thats bad on purpose: Green Jellÿ:Cereal Killer (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0355502/)
Title: Re: Good bad movies
Post by: Mika on February 10, 2011, 03:53:13 pm
The skeleton movies looked fun, they're on my list.

If you like splatter and fighting movies, don't miss Riki Oh (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lbzbyg3olQI). Though the chances are that you have seen this already.
I have never seen so over the top fighting scenes in a movie, but if you are a sensitive person, skip this one.

Could anyone help me with the name of "OMG! Asteroid is coming right for us!" type movie where the problem was solved with some F/A-18s firing lasers to it. Could it have been Deep Impact or something else? Nevertheless, that movie does rank in here, especially when watched with drunken space physicists and engineers. It was utterly hilarious movie, right from the start when the asteroid goes by the camera with low bass sound...
Title: Re: Good bad movies
Post by: Mika on February 10, 2011, 04:12:46 pm
It wasn't Deep Impact. It was Asteroid. And they weren't F/A-18s, but F-14s.

See it (http://disastermovieworld.com/2011/01/29/asteroid-1997/) for yourselves, for it has to been seen to be believed. This is one of the most unintentionally funny movies I have ever seen.

Definitely not a so-bad-it's-good. Though it's pretty average, to be sure.

That said, if you imagine it's a prequel to the Warhammer 40,000 universe, it gets so much better. :D

Nope. The screenplay was floating in deep space by Voyager II, which trasmitted images back to allow the movie to be made. Scientists have theorized that the screenplay artifact could very well pre-date the universe itself. For all intents and purposes, Buckaroo Banzai was never "created." It has always been.

I got curious. Incidentally Youtube happens to have the full movie with english subtitles in 15 minute chunks, so I watched it from there. Not a bad movie really, it was somewhat entertaining and the message it was telling was interesting.

That's why I mentioned it. It's definitely a very watchable movie. The storyline is interesting and you definitely do want to see how it ends. I would definitely watch it again cause I only got on the bus at about the point the robot was saving people from the burning building and I'd like to see the start.

It's just that I can't actually come straight out and say it's a good movie cause there are so many things wrong with it. :D

May I mention the Boondock Saints? I loved that film, because it's made so ridiculous in some scenes especially for the credit scene after the courtyard scene.

The first thing I did after watching that movie was buying myself a trenchcoat :warp:

Title: Re: Good bad movies
Post by: Mika on February 15, 2011, 01:23:03 pm
I saw Sharktopus and Mega Pirahna. As incredible as it sounds, they weren't enough over the top, and approached faster the limit of so bad it's bad rather than so bad it's good. Although I laughed at the scene where the giant pirahnas ate a US navy battlecruiser  - the movies needed seriously more of that and better over the top dialogue. Luckily and at the same time ironically, we were prepared for this possibility by drinking enough alcohol to prevent the brain damage these movies could cause - so I view it as a kind of exchange between different sorts of brain damage. If memory serves, Megashark vs. Giant Octopus suffered from the same problem.

We also saw R.E.D. and Alien Apocalypse during that movie evening. RED was ok, and Alien Apocalypse was actually not that bad. Whether if that is because of Bruce Campbell or some other reasons remains to be seen. Let's see what will be the next movie we'll watch.
