Title: GTCv Medea, Aristia and uparmored turrets.
Post by: Mars on February 09, 2011, 05:02:57 pm
It seems like sometimes the Medea's main beams can be easily destroyed with a few Stiletto IIs, and yet sometimes it can take a full Nyx bank of Stilettos, and still survive. It can take longer to destroy one beam turret than it takes the Medea to destroy Dea Bricta. Am I imagining this fluctuation? I read several different armor mods for the turrets in question, but I'm not sure what it takes to defang the Medea and save the torpedo division.

I'm guessing that you are not supposed to save the Torpedo 1 or 2, and that the turrets are guardianed... or whatever it's called.

Nope, you can save them, no guardian.

Oh well.... then it's possible that you are not hitting the turret but some other random hull part.

It is entirely possible that the center of the beam turret subobject is not actually centered inside any geometry hence only attacks from certain angles work.

Oi; I'm trying to finish the walkthrough, but I myself can't find a way to consistently save the cruisers. I'll fly out and do one thing, and save the Dea Bricta and Au. . . whatever it was, and the next time I do what *seems* to be the same thing, I'll fail miserably at that task.

Are Stilettos destroyed by slash beams?

They are supposed to be destroyed, sort of. I managed to blow the Medea's right beams with paveways, but they just keep going and instead they keep going into the Hood's firing range. As for the Diomedes' beams, yes they are hard to destroy without appropriate weapons, I tried doing the same with the Valerie on the earlier mission and you can't get paveways then.

Don't worry, the UEF sorties Sanctus cruisers to die horribly. Its their role!

They're a bonus objective to save. I will agree that Sanctus cruisers are pretty bad, but nothing was worse than Fenris's in FS2. . . actually, any ship in FS2

It turns out that the best way to do it is to get to the fore of the Medea and shoot at the side of the turrets.

So it is possible to save the Auxerre and Dea Bricta as in having them survived at the end of the mission? If so, do I have to destroy some of the Hood's beams as well?
At least I managed to save the Vatican, but not the Vilnius. If so, I replay that mission and try that again.

It's fully possible to save the Dea Bicta and Auxerre; you'll need a Nyx or a Kentauroi with Stilettos or Paveways. You get two bonus objectives for saving them.

After you defang the Medea's broadside you need to take your squad and defang the Hood's forward guns. The fighters from the Medea typically aren't a threat unless you're on Insane.

I actually created better Sanctus with proper wartime weaponry equipped, but I haven't seen any indication of fredders making use of it yet. Which is sad, because the original Sanctus sucks as you say.

Original Sanctus does not suck  :blah:

And your wartime refit has been used several times.

Yes the Sanctus is under-gunned, but it's mostly for anti-fighter support, is it not? And sometimes as a  large bomber with single Warhammer.

I've always seen them as in the same tactical space as the Hyperion cruisers on the Tev side.

It's an R2 asset only in the BP svn.

He most likely wants it for HW: BP mod.
Last time I checked, it was just a weapon change, the model remains the same.

Well, was still interested. I just thought it was something public I somehow missed. Nevermind that, I'll wait R2.
