Title: Hooray for Ambient/Space music!
Post by: Nemesis6 on February 11, 2011, 06:38:26 am
Being surrounded by fellow space nuts, I assume I'm not the only person here who's into the ambient genre. If I were to pick my three favourites it would be these albums, especially the first two:

Jonn Serrie - "And the Stars Go with You"
Global Communication "76-14"
Carbon Based Lifeforms "World of Sleepers"
Brian Eno's "Apollo"
Ashra's "New Age of the Earth"

It really pains me how neglected this genre is. I guess in part it's due to it having no practical application -- No particular setting at which it, and it solely, is suited, apart from relaxation, which is what most people associate it with. Oh well.

Eh.  Not really my thing, though I can appreciate the raw talent on display there.

For Space/Ambient, I'm afraid God Is An Astronaut has set the gold standard.  Suicide By Star (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-GhCEmSOE4)  Fecking awesome fan-made video to go with it.  Nuke, even if you don't care for the music, I expect the video will have some raw appeal.   :p

In the strangest way, this reminds me of Yes, with consideration to the tremendous variations within the song as well as its comparatively abstract nature. It's like what Yes would have been if they were metal and from Finland.

Mmmm Vibrasphere.

Now, if you want something more like "Dead Space," clearly the choice is Lustmord:
